Should I Buy Monster Whisperer DLC?
I just bought My Time at Sandrock, because I absolutely loved My Time at Portia. I was wondering if I should also buy Monster Whisperer DLC from the get go or at all? I only care about content in games, and not about cosmetic stuff.

I recommend that you first completely pass the game without dlc at all, as some of them greatly facilitate the game. Monster Whisperer gives the opportunity to tame wild animals that can get water and some resources + can fight with you, and this will greatly facilitate the game and will not be so interesting. You can tame a few animals without dls, but it will take a lot of time. I have played more than 2000 hours in this game and dlc just amuse me and give me an incentive to pass this game more and more).
If you in the future want to pass the game in the accelerated pace, then you can buy and Monster Whisperer, and clothes for the master, and furniture for the house. Builder's clothes and furniture have characteristics, not just cosmetics, and animals give positive effects to the builder. This game has a high replayability rate. Take your time, enjoy it)
In multiplayer vispere does not work yet.

I don't have the DLC but would not recommend it for a first run. You want to take your time and experience the game as it was designed without the perks you get. Grubbing for water and materials, getting face rolled by monsters, etc is part of the fun. I'm almost at the end of my 6th run and I'm now considering purchasing the DLC so I can experience the game in a new run with the pet buffs to see the difference. However, I know enough from taming the base game pets what a difference they make to game play even that late to know it will majorly impact a new players first experience to have it.

I have the DLC and am slightly disappointed because you can only have 5 wild animals because you can only put one such apartment on your property, yes there is more, but then you have no place to sleep, which means you lose relationship points. What I also think is a shame that you can't tame this (nasty) desert bird, I actually only got the DLC because of the bird.

The limit is one pet apartment outdoors, more indoors. A mod has been released to remove the outdoor limit as well as provide other changes for the MW DLC for those who like to mod their games.

Edit to add: The pet limit is up to 8 domesticated pets plus up to 50 captured monsters.

Anyway, I'm another who doesn't recommend having a pet zoo doing stuff for you for a first playthrough. With that said, I truly enjoy what the Monster Whisperer DLC and in-game pets as a whole add to the Sandrock experience. I definitely recommend it for subsequent playthroughs.

Don't think I ever met a monster I got "face rolled" by.

But ya getting resources is one major part of the game and making it too easy with DLC does remove a big chunk of that resource desperation

I used to be like you, then I took an arrow in the knee a dive buzzard to the face.

That is the one that got me on my first run. Low level, quietly exploring the lovely desert, avoiding the tripions and boxing jacks then....BAM, taken out by a bird in a wig. Embarrassing, really.

Now if I die it's to the dreaded "parkour" monster, typically in one particular section of the Mole Cave.
