My Time at Sandrock

My Time at Sandrock

overwhelming
Maybe it's me, but I'd like a few days where I can just do whatever I feel like doing. It seems that every time I step out of the house in the morning my plans are being hijacked by some cinematic or urgent request. It is too much combined with the constantly having to watch the time, stamina, water and amount of raw materials. Bit of a rat race.

No, it's not just you :) I have the same issues.
to add, Portia - feels like adventure, Sandrock - feels like a job.

Yep. That is a thing. I have the heavy sigh and muttering of an expletive down pat.

to put it nicely "There goes my day"

Most quests have no timer on them, especially main line quests, so you can park it and do whatever you want until you feel like tackling that which is nice. Ya some things are like OMG RIGHT NOW but for the most part you can control the pace by just not doing it asap.

Portia had no commissions on weekends and that would be a nice add. I know you can just skip them but Yan never rests so why would I? :)

PS: Kick your time down to lowest setting if not already, also helps with overall time mgmt.

You can try using mods (such as stamina regeneration or making the days go even slower), if you want, that should make the pace of the game more manageable for you.

I hope they adhere to what they say they are and sandbox is one of the things this game is boasting. A sandbox means you can do as you like.

I agree, it does feel that way.

It can be pretty tedious to be running to point "X" (to do something "important") and stumble into a cut-scene trigger zone and suddenly be in the middle of something that's completely tonally different. It can also be disconcerting if the tonal shift is big enough.

But ... a lot of that is an illusion.

There ARE some things that are timed, but most of it isn't, and once whatever cut-scene has ended, you can go back to whatever you were doing without having lost too much time.

Most things will wait for you. It's okay to set aside a day and do stuff that'll benefit you instead (build up resources, or build machines or tools for yourself).

Work smarter, not harder.

If you want to be ahead of Yan all the time, like me, it is stressful. Yan isn't working on weekends - or anytime - he is cheeting with his points :p

A year ago I made this post steamcommunity.com/app/1084600/discussions/0/3421060080217889918/ and I still wish the weekends where free from commissions.

If you want things to slow down, don't complete main missions - they have no time limit on them. Do one, then do your own thing before you're ready to advance again.

Whenever there's an update to the game, the next time you log in there seems to be an incredible rush of side quests and cinematic encounters. I figure it's because they've added those as new content and they'd normally trigger off reaching a certain level, or gaining a certain friendship level with an NPC, and you've already reached those triggers weeks ago so you get the new quests in a big flood.

Almost makes me want to restart on each addition to play through them normally because they'd be much more enjoyable that way. Playing through the game from the beginning once the whole game has been released I doubt it would be that overwhelming.

I bought the game after last update so I'm afraid it's not that. I did do the main quest tasks as soon as they became available, guess I'll stop doing that.

Another thing is that after buying a pass for the ruins I feel obliged to use my stamina there every day for a week, which means no dew collection and then having to buy water. The dew collector can't be built yet because no marble. I find it a rather frustrating game and not quite as chill as expected.

There's no need to spend all your stamina in the ruins. You can probably collect enough material to cover the cost of a pass in a couple of hours.

I buy water every day, whether I need to or not. I think that's much more efficient than collecting dew from plants and rocks. One of the things Portia taught me was to spend money instead of stamina.

That said, I agree with your main point that Sandrock doesn't ever give us a chance to relax the way the weekends in Portia did. We have to make those opportunities for ourselves by just deciding to take a break.
Lord_Reavous Apr 16, 2023 @ 10:52am
It is a bit annoying when you have dew collectors and animals that really do need attending to and the moment you step out you are pulled into a quest. If it waiting until I got to the gate then it'd be more manageable.

I end up ignoring 40% of the game because of this. fishing/Mounts/mini-games/animals almost always ignored. That said, I can still play the game just fine, play how you want.
aclaraharrison Apr 16, 2023 @ 12:44pm
Focus on the quests that have a time limit to get those out of the way. Time limit quests are usually easy. I usually ignore the ones that don't have a time limit for when I am ready to start them. After I complete the quests with time limits i consider it my break day and focus on doing other things I'm more interested in like farming resources and making sure materials are stocked etc.
