But they are talking about very possibly allowing multiplayer in story mode in the next sequel, My Time at Evershine. Hope it happens, because, really, multiplayer should have been included in the story mode from the beginning, in the other 2 games, Portia and Sandrock. Stories in games are lot of more fun when sharing it with others.
Single player storyline was never going to be part of multiplayer. That was developers promise from day 1 of the Kickstarter campaign. While devs planned a separate ~20 h story for the multiplayer, it was ultimately scrapped due to player feedback and lack of time and resources so they instead decided to make multiplayer a sandbox instead.
