Is Portia as good as sandrock when it comes to content?
Don't get me wrong I love Sandrock so far.

But I can't stand the desert vibe.

Does Portia have just as much content just a different town or is sandrock superior in most ways?

I'm just wondering if I should push through sandrock to get a better experience or should I go to portia for the nicer view.

Any help be great!

i should say that the things that you do build in portia are massive and change almost instantle the acces to new areas in the map, i dont remember if every character has a lot of content like sandrock, i should play again it, the characters are a bit desproportioned but the game is more vibrant, and with mods you can put more grass, light, and there is alot of them for the game in the nexus

Portia's story is shorter but roughly involves the same theme: you rebuild the town buildings, the church is anti tech stuff but you use the tech stuff to improve the town. The mining mechanic is mostly the same, and end game you build a (non-spoiler) way to connect Portia to the next town just like Sandrock.

Charas are likeable and have interesting romance stories for the core charas, but the dating and stuff is similar to other farming games and less compared to sandrock (not much fancy kissing animations, hand holding mechanics, dates, photos etc). Different spouses give you different benefits.

The part that makes Sandrock superior is the quality of life stuff. They fixed everything we hated or had trouble with in Portia so if you've tried Sandrock first, you might find UI stuff in Portia annoying. I found it hard to go back to Portia because of this. Sandrock is just "bigger and better" in every way.

That said I looooove Portia and absolutely recommend it. I bought sandrock on day 1 because of how much I loved Portia. If the desert vibe is really that bad for you I think you'll love Portia.

I played Portia a long time ago, but I remember that it didn't have as strong a plot as Sandrock. I'm very confused by the behavior of the characters in both games, but as a Miguel fan I'm happy that this particular character was made incredibly alive and realistic. So I have nothing to complain about) Although no, I'm still upset that they still haven't fixed the broken interactions with Miguel. Anyway, if anyone wants to feel like a real hero, it's worth going to Sandrock. Some of the romantic lines with the characters in Sandrock can break your heart (I won't spoiler) but when you get through it together, it turns into something special. There are still issues with character movements, still the 3d models have weight issues and you can see your loved one's hand turn into a noodle, but I'm not sure if they had the budget for a better implementation. It's even comforting that I alone can make a 3d model better and more efficient) Though I always thought I was pretty bad at it.
I love both games, but there are more things that are better in Sandrock (inventory management is a big one). The fishing in Portia is WAY better than Sandrock (both more fun and more profitable). The townsfolk are interesting in both, with an edge to the folks in Sandrock.

The story is good in Portia, bigger in Sandrock. I only had one romance candidate in Portia that I liked, seven (so far) in Sandrock)

To sum - Sandrock is better, but Portia is also very good, and may be a better game to start with to get a feel of the world and the underlying mythology. Both are satisfying in different ways. If you're having difficulty due to Sandrock's desert vibe, then try Portia.

The story and content in Sandrock is definitely better, but the dry desert scenery just can't meet up to how beautiful and elegant it was in Portia, with the beautiful wheat fields, green grassy meadows, and waterfalls. It's definitely an interesting idea, a change of scenery, but not one the type of scenery I'd prefer spending the majority of my time on, over Portia.
But, that said, Sandrock is still absolutely worth playing! The npcs, especially the romanceable ones with their stories, are so well written and authentic, and that cut-scene when you finish the story of Sandrock is so powerful and epic - not just with what happens during the cut-scene, but the beautiful music that plays with it, sounds like a epic orchestral piece from a movie - much more mind-blowing than what it was in Portia, couldn't watch it without a dry eye, to be honest :D
But, I still will always prefer Portia, always been attracted to them open grassy fields :P

I adore both games.

Sandrock has superior mechanics being the newer game, but that's about it. Portia is a much lusher area (aside from the desert part as it is on the way to Sandrock), so you get a very different look to it.

One of the big differences is in the characters. I found the Sandrock characters harder to like at first compared to the Portia ones. Sandrockers have more edges to them, but that can make some of them annoying at times. I like the Portia characters better (Ginger is my fav).

Story - I gives that to Sandrock because the stakes are higher. Still love the Portia story, but they are quite different.

khalleron is 100% right that the fishing is superior in Portia. Getting ridiculously loaded in Portia is much easier.

Both games are great - play both!
