100% agree. Especially the birdnapping . I have ratted Arvio out immediately when Fang shows up to my house all 3 times I've run this mission and Fang still gets mad at me. Like, I immediately told you, not my fault you didn't believe me. Shopkeep may be a 'good man' but he's still a juvenile moron.
Exactly, just one of his stupid ideas......
I found Cheery Conspiracy to be one of my less-liked missions for a different reason. While it was funny in a way, it was way too convoluted, and I think it was a miss on the writer's part. I think I'm one of the only people in the fandom who likes Arvio as a character, and this mission still made me cringe. It seemed out of character if you ask me. Yes, it's in his nature to be impulsive and not think things through, but this was way too much.
It seemed more like they were running with the stereotype that no one likes him anyway let's make him act dumb for the sake of it. It being tied to Fang's quest (one of the fan favorites) just made it seem even worse.
Regardless, of what people say, Arvio's character has depth that could have been explored to a greater degree than just having him play dumb comic relief. Before this one, most of his schemes were directly tied to trying to succeed as a businessman, which makes sense. Some of his dialogue shows that he grew up very poor, was smaller and weaker as a child because of not even having enough to eat, and had to work in a quarry in Barnarock where he was injured frequently. If he seems a little obsessed with success, well look at his desperate background. Not to mention he wanted to help his parents besides.
Cheery Conspiracy really didn't do him any favors, instead, it just seemed like a putdown ploy while Fang was built up as usual. Not to say I dislike Fang, I don't. I just wish they'd give all the other characters equal love.
But apart from that, you probably want to know what is my best and worst main mission in this game? I'm already telling you.
I will also add that I reached main mission number 55 and then I finished playing
The best main mission in my opinion is mission number 46 "THE GOAT":
Where the Player, Justice and Unsuur want to lure Logan's goat which will lead him to his hideout. Their plan did not entirely work and the player separated from the group, but he managed to find a hiding place. Apart from numerous traps, obstacle courses and treasures, the player reaches the hideout and meets Haru's helper (although it is not a well-done boss fight, but I have a theory that the creators wanted the player to fight with both Haru and Logan, i.e. duo bosses! What do you think about it?) When Haru realizes that he has no chance against the player, he runs away, alerting Logan. And this is where my best moment in My Time at Sandrock begins, where the player meets the Legendary bandit Logan. I really waited a long time to finally get this guy, to have a really good and fair fight, so that it wouldn't be like "the creators decide about the hero's fate". And luckily, I managed to do it! And I have to say this is the best boss fight I've ever seen. Bravo to the creators!
If you want to know what happened next in this mission, you can read it on the wiki or watch a video on YouTube, or maybe even play the game yourself! I recommend!
As for the worst mission that even made it into my review, it's mission number 52 "DUVOS ATTACKS!":
When I saw the first trailers for this mission, on the one hand I was very positively surprised, but on the other hand I thought whether the creators hadn't messed it up too much? But unfortunately, what I saw is, in my opinion, the worst mission that the creators of Pathea could have done! If you don't know what this is about, let me explain. The people of Sandrock know about Duvos' attack on the city and are preparing a defense. In the meantime, the player built an air cannon for defense (I wonder why an air cannon? After all, in my opinion, this game should have PEGI 12 and not PEGI 7). The attack begins! The player has the opportunity to use the cannon against the invaders. And it should have been OK, if not for the intervention of the creators of this game! And what does it mean that "THE CREATORS DECIDE THE FATE OF THE HERO!!!" and with double force saying "now you will do this instead"! I have a better way, "RAGE QUIT". And now you think what's going on here? I'm telling you now. When the player uses the cannon to attack the invaders, suddenly someone sabotages your cannon! (I won't even say who it is because it would be a spoiler) The inhabitants, due to magical bad luck, lose to the invaders, and you and your friends teleport to the detention center! (It sounds absurd, but that's not the worst) Suddenly Yan comes with a commission for a Jacuzzi for Lefu and guess who is going to build this Jacuzzi? Of course we do, but what does that mean? That the Duvos soldiers are forced to release the player from custody! (if Yan could be a little smarter, he could give this commission to Mi-an) We gain control over the hero and, first of all, what do we want to do? Of course, we can beat the Duvos Soldiers, Stupid Commander Lefu and, for dessert, mean Yan, but we can't BECAUSE THE CREATORS WANT IT SO! This means they are untouchable!
I don't feel like writing any more because there's nothing interesting left! This is the most absurd and stupid mission I have ever seen in the history of gaming and I don't know if there is an even worse mission than this. Perhaps this mission would be perfect for a parody game, but not in My Time at Sandrock!
What do you think about this? Do you agree or disagree? Or maybe I'm whining again about the biggest flaws of this game?
The next discussion will be about "idea for a story DLC", so you can already prepare ideas for a story DLC.
Before I finish my long comment, I am interested in one thing: What is it about Arvio or Catori? Are these main missions? If so, what are their
Arvio I can handle, he does grow and change, it's cool. Ultimately he's no worse than Elsie. (You can spike the whole Cheery Conspiracy mission by choosing to tell Fang right from the beginning. Fang will be grateful afterward)
Ugh... Burgess ruins everything.
As for my favorite quests, it's definitely the Logan and Duvos questlines. I love a good conspiracy and semi-war story. The climax quests were my favorites: defending the town, freeing the town, and then retaliating.
Yeah I think the Devs could have easily solved a few problems by having the player disarmed. We're a prisoner, of course they're going to take our weapons! Then it would make more sense as to why we didn't do anything. As for getting them back, the obvious solution would be to have Logan give them back to us when he shows up to help.
This shows how lazily this mission was done
or better yet, how childish they made this mission
I like The Goat and feel it is one of the best missions, but it's ruined for me by the stupid parkour. I'm not good at it and while it's easy enough to get through it bugs me that it is there at all, especially the block area with the stupid jump pads. Yes, LOVE the Logan fight at the end.
However, I feel the mission with Logan and Justice in the spaceship is the best. It's the climax to the Logan storyline and I enjoy the whole thing and I'm especially pleased with the two NPCs that accompany me and the interplay that happens.
As for the Duvos thing, I think all of your concerns can be addressed with a perspective change.
1) When the air cannon is sabotaged, Duvos reinforcements arrive, that is what causes the loss. Now, as for the saboteur, well, everyone thought that person was out of the way.
2) Lefu wasn't getting all his info from Yan about the builder, remember, there were several other people of more Duvos importance that were impressed with you also. Yan COULD have given the commission to Mi-an, but remember, Lefu is the ultimate arbitor, Yan doesn't think much of Mi-an, and we are the best in town, Lefu is going to want the best. Lefu also spends the entire time you are free trying to recruit you to their side, which ain't happening in a jail cell.
3) We have our weapons because we are expected to go into dangerous places to gather supplies as the town builder still. Also, we may be good, but we aren't taking on an entire army with our wits, a weapon, and a pickhammer good. Especially not when they have an entire town held hostage to use as leverage. I mean, they pull Jasmine, Andy or Pebbles out with a gun to the head and I'm an immediate surrender. Think about the final fight with Logan and Ged, how many soldiers come rushing in even with the huge diversion, no way a single builder (no matter how much of a Mary Sue) is going to be able to handle the sheer numbers.
4) "THE CREATORS DECIDE THE FATE OF THE HERO!!!" - Ummmm, yeah, that's kinda how it always works. No game has infinite outcomes programmed in, it's all guided and plotted out, you may disagree with the direction but that statement is true in all fiction. And in this game we have zero autonomy over the story direction, it all flows to one outcome no matter our choices, and no matter how loudly we yell at the screen that Trinity would have bleed out by now with that many skewers in her she is still gonna monologue for 10 minutes because the creators said so.
I LOVE Bronco, he is some of the best comic relief in a game I've ever encountered. Also, I can abuse him as much as I want with no repercussions.
I mean, most of the game is childish. Especially with the whole "Violence bad, mkay?" theme they have going with every situation. It's annoying how much of a doormat the game wants us to be. Don't get me wrong, I have fun with this game, but what I wouldn't give for a similar type of game but meant more for adults. Wild west and pacifism just do not go together.
As for my favorite mission, the Duvos invasion wins hands down. From the air cannon to the amusing moments with Stev and the soldiers to Ged and Logan showing up to Commander Lefu's hilarious dialogue...with a side order of Dan-bi spooking the soldiers watching over the civilians in the apartment and Pebbles trying to beat up one of the baddies while saying "mop stick!"...I just love every single thing about that whole sequence.
