Sandrock does have a different feel to it. Portia was a quaint town with plenty of resources and a tight knit community who were more or less happy to meet you because they knew your pa. Sandrock is a bit rough around the edges at first but i loved to see people warming up to you as they got to know you and become your friend. Some of the quest feel like they are higher stakes than in Portia. Like the town needs you to build something instead of it would be nice to have a bridge, ect...
I also feel like the devs are making an effort to change up some of the mechanics. (Like mines, farming and fishing are different among other things)
Overall, I think that its a beautiful game with a lot of character :)
It's worth it. The devs have devoted a lot of quality of life improvements over Portia.
- There's no Stamina Penalty for staying up late. You lose a buff and gain dark eyes, but otherwise it's fine.
- No Stamina costs for Dungeons. Unlike Portia, you lose Time rather than having to pack multiple stamina foods to fight the monsters inside, and the amount of Time is given to you prior to entry.
- A lot more Customization for your Workshop. Yes, this part can get a bit tricky to learn, but they are adding pre-made selections at a later date for those who want it. Land Size is amazing for those who can afford it.
- New Events for Holidays.
- Weather effects will be included in the final release.
- The Mining Ruins are a lot more like Old Ruins than just Caves.
I do want to add my main complaint is Fishing. I still believe it was done better in Sandrock, but some people might like it better.
Multiplayer will have its own story ( and can apparently be done solo if you just want to see it ) and will soon have a wide test period for all players in Alpha.
The dev team is very receptive to feedback.
As V said, Sandrock does have it's own feel to it. The characters are quite different from Portia ( for better or worse ). They're likely to grow on you over time.
