Cactus flowers
Has anyone been able to harvest cactus flowers without cutting the tree down? I'm hoping that the ability to harvest the flowers with cutting down the trees will be in later versions.

You don't get flowers when you kick the cactus? (I honestly can't remember at the moment.)

Nope. I've tried multiple times. Just get the usual; cactus fruit, spine and the occasional feather.

Just cut cactii out in the desert beyond the bridge.
Burgess doesn't mind you doing it out there.

There are three types of cactus: ball cactus, cactus tree, and cactus flower tree(yes, its different.)

You'll need to find that third out past the bridge once you progress the story, or grow one in your plot yourself.

Already doing that...cutting down the flower cactus beyond the bridge. I was hoping for something a little less destructive.

Thank you. I've been cutting down cactus trees and not getting flowers. I didn't understand why. I didn't realize there was a different type of cactus with flowers.

I think you're right. I cut down a cactus in the desert in front of several townsfolk including Burgess. Yan (the closest NPC) said something like "Chopping down trees builder, tsk tsk" but I didn't notice anything negative happen.

It is an RNG drop and has to be called Cactus Flower Tree when you mouse over it. Took me like 8-10 trees before 1 flower dropped.

The wiki says the flowers are visible in the summer. It worked in spring though, just bad drop rate.

If you kick the flower tree, yes, you will eventually get one. The rate of drop is just REALLY low.

I feel like they should let you kick them for flowers. As it is, they're fairly rare to get. There's sometimes a commission for 8 of those flowers and I've failed to get 8 after chopping down every single Flower Cactus Tree in the entire Eufala Desert and the few you find in Whispering Valley and near the Starship Ruins. That's with the lucky pendant and about the highest luck you can have...

Before the last mine location I would go each 3 or 4 days to chop petrify wood and, since I was there, I hunt down scorpions and cangurus and chop down flower cactus and Hyacynt flowers for Fang's commissions.
You can cut trees around Sandrock perfectly fine as long as nobody sees you. I've chopped down the box trees many times, after a few days they are back and Burges is watering them like nothing happened. It goes the same for the cacti. Just pay attention to the map, npcs are shown as green dots.
