Confusing "Hold a party" mission

First of all, I was able to complete the main story in this game without ever needing a guide. Everything was explained well and intuitively.

But then came the mission for my birthday, and suddenly the game decided to give me 0 details on what to do. This was the first time I had to look something up on the internet, it was very frustrating too, because it's tricky with the day limit. Why couldn't the mission marker have a thing saying "Buy a banquet table from game center store"? Complete with a 0/1 to know I only need 1 and all that. I needed to know where to go for that.

I didn't even think of checking that store. And when I finally had the table, I failed the mission because I bought it on the same day as the party. This really soured my party... But after reloading an older save file from a few days ago, the party itself was very sweet, everything about this mission was cool, except the total lack of explanations. I don't think anyone said anything either. The Party Tutorial only appeared when the table was set, but I think it should have appeared on the day the mission started. AND the tutorial should have explained where to get the table too.

Sorry to hear that. Mine was delayed by one day because the invitations had to be handed out one day ahead. But i held the party day after and all went well.
If I'm not wrong Arvio and Mystery Man also sell the table.

Nope, Arvio does not sell it! Would have made much more sense. Mystery man maybe, but he takes forever to appear, would be impossible to count on him.

Is this an actual mission? I was playing and I got the pop-up "your birthday is in three days..blah blah"..., but there was nothing in the journal about it, and nothing after. Do you miss anything if you don't do it from the pop-up? :\

That pop-up is just a reminder that you can have a party if you want to. There is no mission for it, and you're not missing anything. Except the relationship points for your guests, of course.

f you're married, your spouse will have a mission for their own birthday (possibly also yours, don't remember). They might tell you they will take care of everything, but of course they don't. Make sure to have lots of food ready, townies eat a lot.

I hate holding parties in the game so I always decline the mission. Taking Logan out to face-roll some hostiles is a good enough b-day for me (and him, based on his maniac laugh).

Living everyday like it's your birthday. That's pretty nice.

I've got ~150 hours in the game and I have yet to host a party. The only reason I even know they exist is because of the party knowledge option. It's good to know that I need the banquet table from the game shop if I ever want to try that.

I don't do birthday parties, both in game and in real life. Too much work for little to no return. You can just ignore it and move on. By the time my first bday in game came, I've already got max affinity with everyone I've wanted to at that point.
