The developers are the ones who get to say what the game 'should' be about, lol.
It's an optional DLC. There was no romance in the Interior Design DLC.
They already said in their plans for Evershine that they are cutting back on the number of romancable characters because they realized it was too many in Sandrock. in Evershine the plan is to have fewer characters available for romance, but have them be fairly deep and engaging for those that want to pursue that romance path. To me that should bring it back more in line with Portia. As always, you can completely skip romancing anyone if you want.
I want Evershine to have good quality candidates and for content to not be locked behind romancing. For example, I shouldn't have to marry Fang to adopt X. I should be able to adopt X by being his BFF and going through his platonic quest line.
I don't disfavor fewer romance choices as long as they're good, compelling choices.
While some people just want a romance novel, some people want a more complete game that's a little more fleshed out in non-romance areas, and has a lot more character development and content outside of romance - I think Evershine looks like they're moving in the right direction.
I love how what they say on the new choices changes so you don't always get the same statement. Apparently Logan has a questionable "least regrettable" dialog that I haven't personally gotten but I've seen a screen shot. It starts with him saying he's not good with words then he proves it, lol.
That cuddle couch gets me. The fact the dialog will rotate the longer you sit on it is so cute. I also like that you can do some of the memories even if you aren't in romantic relationships. I did both of Mi-ans with only friendship.
omg I saw the new follow option on Mi-an first (I started a new save to play through it for the DLC because I am a nerd) so I chose it and she grabbed my hand and started saying sweet things as we ran through the desert and then I saw the interaction options and -- that's how I ended up marrying another lady for the first time in my gaming career (not really, still holding out for the yakboy, but I seriously thought about it she is so sweet).
If you haven't, tell her you're having a bad time with stuff in the interactions menu. D'aww.
I had Logan on follow and he started laughing and told me slow down before he slipped away or something like that - i don't remember the exact words it was super darn cute. I used Mi-an's to have her get on the horse after the time capsule quest so I could give her lift back to town, lol.
It does weird me out that even in a non-romance situation they do the romance pose for the new interactions. It's not so bad with Logan/Fang as they stand a decent distance away for it to not be awkward if you aren't romancing them. The girls get right in your face though. Like, girl-friend, I know you're being sweet but I need personal space - nose to nose is too damn close.
