How do you use Pet Snacky Beans?

The tip on this item says it can be given to a pet to increase its experience. But how do you do that? It can't be gifted. Same with the food items (can't remember what they're called) that you use to tame animals. The tip on these also say they can be feed to your pets to increase their experience. But...how? I tried gifting and throwing and nothing happened.

If you are trying to catch a pet - you use the meatballs or round pieces by throwing them at the creature of your choice when it has a paw up atop it's head. You need to throw as many as it takes it till you acquire them (lowest meatball probably might take a few - the highest one can usually get you the pet right away). One they are your pet - they will show up in your menu and maybe follow you if you do not have any creatures following you.

The snacky beans are use to raise the quality of your pet - much like how you try to raise the quality of your horse and weapons. To do so you need to access the pet's menu. When you are in the pets menu after getting there either through the pet's menu choices when you talk or the home assessment board. Pick a pet and then on the right it shows all the stats and clothing options in the tabs - there's a tab that shows you how to raise their quality with the treats- it is the star tab or third one before the clothing tab. It shows different numbers for the treats - usually it goes one treat to raise above ordinary, 2 for raising past outstanding, and 4 to raise the pet from perfect to rare.

I'll take a look around. I thought I'd gone through all the tabs, but only found the upgrade one on the house board which fills in with stuff from my boxes (fish, food, etc. Not the snacks.)

OK. Found the correct panel. It isn't the "upgrade" panel but the one to the right of it. If you have the beans, it shows it below with a (small) button that allows you to feed the pet. But now I'm having a problem. I've fed a couple of the pets and tried to do it again (costing more beans) but the confirm button does nothing. This was on the house panel, so I'm wondering if I have to interact directly with the monster.
