The whole point of the "appartment" is to save space and keep it "tidy".
What's the point of those limits?
It'd be nice if the pet apartment fit more than 5 pets, that's a small amount. And the game's going to end up with a mass of apartments(at least for me) because I really love this new game feature, I never would have guessed how much I'd love these little guys, watching them run around and randomly running up to me.
The apartment is big, so they take up allot of space. And there's allot of monsters. Plus the separate color option you can give your monsters, which could equal another monster spot to have both variations running around.
Not all of them have to be visible in the apartment, the players could just choose who they see resting in it while everyone one else can have a bed, saving very valuable space... Even the biggest home upgrade isn't that big, I was surprised how small it actually is.
That sounds like a good idea!
