Along with buying the lowest grade mount and then improving their grade at your stable.
Mounts are not necessary early game, just use the yakmel carts and run while you expand your land and get a stable (not a barn). Stables require steel bars to build and if you are concerned about the amount of money needed to expand enough for a stable then one of two things have likely happened. Either 1) you are not far enough in the story to have accessed steel yet, or 2) you have pushed the story too fast and haven't spent enough time completing commissions and earning money.
If it's 1, then relax, running and yakmel carts may be slower than you want but it's really all you need. If it's 2, then slow your roll by A LOT or you are going to quickly find yourself frustrated as you find yourself under-leveled for everything. The first few yard upgrades are super cheap and stables don't cost that much. Once you hit yard level 5 the price starts to go up significantly each level, so if you are stressing your gols right now then you probably need to focus on other things than mounts.
This game is meant to be a marathon, not a sprint. Savor it.
Yes, but that's pretty far out.
Cash flow increases with game progress. Put priority on upgrading and refining your pickhammer. A stronger tool means more resources, more XP and more money.
They are talking rental, not purchase. That's the expensive rental. Yes, purchasing one is much more expensive.
