How do you unlock furniture customizations?

I've noticed that, for some furniture, when I go to dye them, there's a category called 'Customise Style' that lets you change actual pieces on the furniture to different looks. For instance, the single bed you can buy from Arvio, I really like one of the customizable blankets that has a really cool print on it that looks like a sun, but it has a padlock over it. Any idea how I unlock it? Wiki doesn't seem to have any answers on where to get these customizations.
I once bought a furniture chest from the Mysterious Man, but instead of getting furniture, I just got a Candy Paint Cushion chair colour scheme for the Rustic Cushion Chair, so would that maybe be how I unlock it, from the Mysterious Man?

I've looted patterns from chests in the wild and I'm pretty sure I got one from those little mini areas with the chests under sand and on platforms.
