They did really well with most of the QoL improvements, but, to me, after trying to restart a new Portia run, Sandrock really shines with the NPCs. Everything in Sandrock, ironically, feels more alive than Portia. I am much more invested in the characters themselves than I was in the Portia NPCs.
They did a great job of character development and progress as your friendship level changes and town events occur. The dialog is top notch. Now if they could fix marriage so that once the romance is over the marriage has a reason to exist. Hand holding and follow are a big win, but the marriage quests are meh and the overall family stuff is just so tacked on and lacking.
I didn't know our commissions could be finished while the items are in the chests and I have played it over 3x now !
And we will get an actual DLC with more story content ? I know about gameplay, that would be about the pets/monster training but DLC related to the story ? I wonder if that would be about Martle and Mort. OR would it be a continuation about builder? I'm EXCITED !!!
I loved Portia, it was beautiful and I was so glad it wasn't a game where I have to do an every day farming. It was an every day building and I love this change ! I loved how we even could see the changes in Portia because of us! Same with Sandrock. The characters in Portia was kinda...bobble heads unlike in Sandrock but romance was cute, story was nice and I loved the house. Sandrock is...let's say 3x more addictive than Portia !
I love the story, I love how "harsh" it can be too. Doesn't always have to be cozy. Sandrock really gave me the "desert" feeling and the "you're a stranger" feeling. I love the character building, romance, combat, building, farming, games, story, horses,... I love how Pathea really did their research on this!
I tried retrying Portia....but god, the easy building mechanics I miss in Sandrock...
Honestly I am glad the combat was simple. There are ppl that likes combat, but sometimes there are people that doesn't want combat where they keep dying. And people complain how combat was easy? There is a mix of people you know? The combat-lovers and the noncombat-lovers.
I seriously love how Pathea is like Larian => they both LISTEN to feedback of players!
ETA: I've said it before and I'll say it again; I'm so glad they went beyond the 'hey we won' phase and added actual restoration to the story. It's a thing that I don't see often in games, and I love it in Sandrock. Let us have our cake and eat it too, as it were.
Then came Sandrock and, boy howdy, how awesome is this? A great story, characters that grow and change, nothing that needs modding. Everything is engaging (although the factory in Portia just works and the one in Sandrock just doesn't).
Now if they can fix marriage, we'll have something for the ages.
Can't wait to see what the DLC's will be about and of course what the next My time will be! <3
PS:
"our core members, including story writers, traveled to the northwest desert region of China for over 10 days to gain firsthand knowledge on combating desertification. Through these trips, we observed the behaviors of plants and animals and drew inspiration for in-game stories and functions. In fact, some of the characters in Sandrock are actually based on real Chinese local farmers who are experts in combating desertification. "
Hi! What do you mean the factory doesn't work in Sandrock?
It is a bit more complicated to setup maybe at first, but once it is then it works fine (or you mean sth else?).
Beg to differ, the YTaS: Logan mod is the only mod I've every seriously considered for a cozy game just to be able to remove his freaking hat (didn't install but I'm still really, really tempted).
Thanks for the great quality of this game.
"I believe in Sandrock"
I'm a big Cooper fan, because let's face it, everybody in the US knows at least one person like him! He reminds me of a guy I used to work with ("Will, I just asked about the cash forecast, but I hope your chicken feels better...")
