Also, if you're a same-sex couple, you can only have a child through adoption. There's no option for IVF or similar in the game, as far as I'm aware.
What does IVF mean? I am married to someone of the opposite sex. I have already placed the crib. I'm still not getting the option to ask for a baby
You need a workshop at level 5 or higher (how many expansions you've had to the land).
You need a cradle somewhere in your house (I put down one in each room, and now I cannot remove them...)
You may need a single bed or two for when the baby gets older and doesn't use the crib anymore.
You need max relationship after marrying your spouse.
You need to wait a certain amount of time after the wedding (exact timeline is unclear, some people say 2 weeks, others say 6 weeks or even longer, maybe it's x amount of time after maxing out spouse relationship?).
There is speculation that having baby items in crates/helper crates may help, but it doesn't seem 100% necessary.
If conditions are met, at some point either your spouse will ask you if you want to have a baby, or you'll get a pacifier icon option when talking to them.
I never got my issue fixed and resorted to using mods (there's a child/children mod on nexus), and that finally did it.
IVF means there are no infertility options available to the player. :-) Its all natural or adopt. :-)
