Pop culture in-jokes and references

I've noticed that a lot of the dialogue has some clever nerdy in-jokes and movie references throughout the storylines. I've enjoyed them every time I recognised them, but the most surprising was the quoting of lyrics of the Talking Heads song 'Once In A Lifetime'.

I was just coming here to remark this. It was the "Same as it ever was" bit that broke me-- unmistakable if you recognize it, but to anyone else, probably just seems like an odd interaction. Made me reassess every other reference I wrote off as "maybe a coincidence" to "oh, they definitely knew what they were doing."

(Though, of all of them, the impromptu ♥♥♥♥♥cat Dolls reference (from nearly 20 years ago now) was a real eye-opener.)

Apparently the quote on Howlett's tombstone is also a reference to a song. I'm not a fan of that band but I looked up the lyrics and, sure enough, it's right there in the song. "Welcome to the Black Parade" from My Chemical Romance.

One of my favorites is Bronce the Kid channeling his inner Gandolf.

Oh yeah, and my husband side eyes me every time I laugh at Rosie and her Taken dialog

I'm not normally a fan of "I saw a movie once" humor, but Sandrock does it so well because they just go whole hog with it. They've got so many Easter eggs that Mayor Lewis awarded them with a new hat.

My favorite is the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reference Justice throws out there when Larry comes up out of the canyon in Act 3.
