Game combat that needs to be changed
So here I am again, the eternally dissatisfied, screaming player who is disturbed by the poor combat in this game and is asking the creators for slight changes to the combat, which will not appear in this game anyway.

If you don't know who I am, I'm the type of player who likes to play relaxing games (e.g. Stardew Valley) as well as action games with difficult challenges (e.g. Dead Cells) and I believe that "My time at Sandrock" I consider it a relaxing game as well as an action game (two in one). And you probably know that the game is not balanced, i.e. the more you do, the more powerful your character is than your opponents, and when a sandstorm appears, the enemies are more powerful than the player because they scale! And now I will surprise you! It wouldn't bother me if the fights in this game were a side attraction, without any antagonists, a town that won't be invaded and other surprises. But unfortunately, as I see it, the fighting in this game is the highlight.

Why do I say this and why does it bother me so much?
Listen!

We see in cutscenes how opponents and antagonists pose a threat to the player. Pen that crushes the player, in the tutorial (in fact, it is so powerful at the very beginning that it is almost impossible to defeat it) Dangerous Geeglers that surround the player. Geegler President, a boss who is so big that the player and his buddy will not be able to cope with this boss, Bandit Logan, who is so excellent at swordsmanship that he will defeat as many as three lawmen (including the player). And now, spoiler alert: Defense against the invasion of dangerous Duvos soldiers, in which without a cannon the town would quickly fall.

These cutscenes are one big fiction!
And now I'll tell you the truth!

The group of Geeglers is so weak that they would have fled long ago at the sight of the player. Geegler President is a real weakling who can't even cope with the player's friend, while the player sits on a deckchair, drinks juice, eats a sandwich and plays with the kitty Captain. The bandit Logan, if he saw the player's power, would have ordered the evacuation, but instead, he wanted to defeat the player, he failed and ended up in prison (it's a pity, because I would really like to see it). Spoiler alert again: If Duvos' soldiers invaded the town, they would have a big problem, because the player is so strong that he would defeat the entire Duvos army! What about Penn? Well, he is strong, but not as strong as the player later in the game.

And it sounds absurd, and did you know that the creators combined fiction with truth?
And what do you think it all looks like, because to me it looks like one big PARADOX!

And I have a question for the creators: why did you go in this direction? Why don't we get the option to scaling opponents?
I think that the idea of leveling in games like Assasins Credd Origin or The Witcher 3 is the worst mechanic that exists in the game! And unfortunately I have to experience this!
Why couldn't you introduce combat mechanics without leveling, only with the option to choose the difficulty level, such as: Star Wars Jedi Series or Ratched & Clank: Rift Apart? After all, in my opinion this is a much better solution than the current ones!
What do you think, is this a good idea?

I love the My Time games but the combat is easily the weakest aspect of them. Just keep hitting X (on Controller) until the ememy dies. Boss battles are exactly the same, but they have more HP. Zero tactic or finesse necessary, just level up your guy and his weapons. The only variety comes from the different ememy designs.

I mean, it is a cozy game, combat isn't the point. I think the combat is much better in this one. I roll around and and chase targets with my daggers instead of auto-locking and it's, for me, the perfect amount of challenge. I agree combat is the weakest portion of these games, but I feel they should be. If I want hard combat I have other games to play, I play My Time games for the story, the characters and the fun. Most of the fights are just there for fun and story progression. I mean, seriously, the fight with the Geegler leader was just a riot, Captain earned that promotion.

This makes me curious as to how you can get through the game without knocking out your opponent (so to speak). Because in this game it's impossible.

Well, fighting against weak opponents, "because that's how it's supposed to be"! Where is there any satisfaction in fighting? Because I feel irritated!

Obviously, differente people have different points of view and that is ok. I'm allways for a "increase difficult" button, so that everyone would get theyr own lvl of combat desired.

Agree! The Combat is too easy and boring. They also need to redesign the food and drugs,. Especially the food, totally useless!

100 hours in, never used food once. Not necessary. Just keep hitting enemies and maybe block their strongest attacks every now and then.

Out of everything combat was the biggest let down. Damn, even ps2 games had much better combat than from the My Time series. It's far too easy and feels more like a chore than fun. :/ Even when I was 10 levels behind I was still too powerful. Never made any remedies are they felt more like waste of time rather than a necessity. Could of added more spice to it to like a jump slash or button combo but no... it's the same as it is in Portia.

I don't play these kinds of game for their combat lol, it's meant to be simplistic and that's okay.

Okay, I understand my mistake. If Pathea wants to introduce the option of difficulty levels, there must be players who are in favor of introducing the option, and there are none (except me).

As for the Boss, I also have to agree, because the players are not prepared for a difficult fight. If they want a normal fight with the so-called Final Boss, the developers need to: Reduce his damage, reduce the frequency of his attacks (I may be wrong), and give more HP if players want a longer fight.

I'm in favor of difficulty levels, a good many people who like this type of cozy game don't like combat, don't buy the game for the combat, and struggle through difficult boss fights, so far I've had to do each one over and over again, and in the end I'm not even sure how I won, probably dumb luck, or maybe the game just let me win after multiple attempts, idk, either way it's not a enjoyable experience.

Wait? What did I write? Have I mixed up the discussions? Because apparently!

I like SDV type games the most and I'm not big on combat. For me, it's the perfect balance. I can gear up, have a bit of a challenge and still enjoy whipping a$$. I loved the 110 level dungeon in MTaP. It was more of a challenge at the end of it. I would welcome that in Sandrock also.

This is a cozy game, I am fine with the combat system.

I wish they give option to invite an NPC (buddy and up) to dungeon dive with you, or at least your pet.
khalleron Dec 20, 2023 @ 5:42pm
As someone who HATES combat, I find the combat in this game to be perfectly fine.

I do go into the spaceship ruins with about 200 Fang Specials, because no matter what level I am, I suck at fighting and need constant boosts to keep from getting killed repeatedly.

SaintSinner - you can get your buddies to dungeon dive with you by asking them to hang out and then taking them with you. Be nice and give them dinner afterward.

"The cutscene says they're dangerous, but my character smacks them around!" is something I've been experiencing in RPGs since the PS1. I just find it typical at this point, barely notice it. /shrug

(heck, it's got entries on TVTropes. Gameplay & Story Segregation, and Cutscene Incompetence, for example)

. . . I'm reminded of one silly situation in one of the Xenosaga games. You had to beat the boss to get the cutscene - and the cutscene is "OMG, they're too powerful! We can't beat them! We must retreat!" :D
