Acacia Wood
The whole issue with Sandrock was from deforestation, and cutting down trees is illegal. I've been good the entire game, I don't even think I've cut down a cactus - let alone a tree. Suddenly I need "Acacia Wood" to complete a main quest and, I had no idea where to obtain it. After failing to discover it, thinking it was from the new update, I learned that the only place to get it was from cutting down the actual Acacia tree.
Is this only bothering me?

Just make sure Burgess is nowhere around and you are good. I think these trees are in the Northern Plateau area and you are only restricted from cutting down trees within Sandrock's city limits. So, you shouldn't feel bad. You are doing what is necessary to survive.

What's interesting is that on the one hand the game decries cutting down trees and espousing conservation and the realness of reclaiming the desert using square planting with straw etc, but on the other hand has logging as a game element. Disconnect much?

High level thorny jumpers also give it as a drop.

If I remember correctly; for acacia wood, you have to go to the cliff near Zeke's Farm (the moisture farm). There is a small platform right at the edge where you can call Elsy's bird. By climbing on his back, he takes you to the other side of the cliff where you will find acacia and metals that you will need later. It's near a buried ship and Burges doesn't go there... and the trees grow back.

Honestly it's really dumb. They want you to be so conscious and aware (and if you select certain dialog at a certain time, Burgess will say how many "trees" you've cut down - even outside of town), yet the only way I've been able to get cactus flower, acacia, boxwood, poplar, dragons blood (giftable), and sisal (considered a tree on wiki) are by chopping them.

They should have made it so you can kick this stuff out of trees or have bushes or enemies that drop them frequently (and respawn like in Portia). They give complete mixed messages there. I agree.

Acacia Wood you can gather them at Northern Plateau after the big war
Games will always have the "Realism X Gameplay" conflict. And I could go with a bunch with this game, but it's not my intention to bring it down, since is a great game.

What I didn't like is when I had to cut a cactus, to get an item required for a mission. Spoiled myself about not being a problem to do that with the ones at Eufaula Desert, but the game still marked as me "cutting a tree" at the end game list of my actions. =/

They only seem to give regular wood as a drop for me. ):
Is it specific ones somewhere?

I need more for the school, a bit exasperated. :AggroCrab:

EDIT: Lvl 45 Enraged thorny Jumpers that appear in Sandstorms for clarification, tons of em' out in the desert. 1-2 Acacia wood drops on death.

You can kick things out of trees that would otherwise be logging exclusive with the use a perk (Advanced Wood Knowledge 3). But still, it's 10% as opposed to 40% chance for cutting it down (in the case of cactus flower).

The solution I think would be to massively buff that perk, so it instead just enables the entire drop list instead of giving a small chance to drop things outside the kick list.
