While there is farming and animal husbandry, it's not the main point of this game.
It's about you having a specific funtion to town, that is to build and fix things. And many of these things will create a permanent impact on the story,
Combat is not the priority as well, as is more about exploration, and exploitation of these areas.

In resume, you are a builder. Not a farmer, not a warrior, or a trader, although you dabble with it.
Builders are a little bit like the stereotypical Jack-of-all-Trades Mad Scientist. They dabble in all kinds of fields, doing some of almost everything related to "making things". Leonardo da Vinci with a sword! :steamhappy:

If, however, you love exploring, getting resources, crafting, researching, modifying the landscape, then, oddly enough, Conan Exiles is kind of interesting.

If you single play, you can customize the world to a great degree; you can even host simultaneous multiplay. if you multiplay with more people you can (for a relatively modest price) spin up or even host your own server for friends, with you setting the rules. (Hint: you probably won't want PvP).

That said, it's not cartoony, it's more gore-y, not remotely child friendly, etc. But it is quite nice at scratching some of the builder itch and with the right ruleset, combat isn't really a big worry, like MTAS.

I *loved* finding a bad to settle area with rich resources that was up a cliff from my camp, so took a long time to get to by roundabout ways. When I built stairs up the cliff face (and later researched and built an elevator) I felt a nice sense of achievement.

I concur. I too enjoyed Conan Exiles a lot. But I also agree that it's not "child friendly".

Other games of a similar nature:

Star Bound, Core Keeper (both of those are pretty child friendly).

The Long Dark (less child friendly).
