Mi-an getting pushed into obscurity
I think it's strange and somewhat funny how Mi-an, after a certain early point in the story, almost completely disappears. She is the first person you meet in the game and she's a big part of the early storyline. We can see that she is a vital part of Sandrock's recovery project. And then she's hardly in any story quests and not in any side quests either. (I'm about 80 hours into the game)

It's as if the devs read the lukewarm to negative reactions to her character in the early access phase and decided to write her out as much as possible for the latter part of the story.

I don't have a big problem with it, but I do like her positive can-do attitude. They did my girl Mi-an dirty, ya'll.

Yeah from what I recall some people got upset she acted as the player's voice. I liked the concept of sharing the responsibility of being Sandrock's builder with her and it being a collaborative effort and felt a bond with her out of the gate due to both her and the builder being new to Sandrock. But as they say, squeaky wheel gets the grease...

I think they overcompensated after early access complaints. She just needed to stop being the player's voice, not fade into the background completely.

I feel bad because she starts feeling broken and left behind at a certain point. They tried to redirect her a bit into getting an interest in hydroponics, but I feel she'll get left behind there once Nia shows up.

that's exactly what it looks like to me, too.

She's not in any of the important meetings with the mayor, Heidi, etc. anymore.
There's even a point in the game where Mi-an is like: "You do the big tasks, don't worry about me, I'll stay back here and do the menial stuff!" LOL

Later on in the story there's something of an explanation for this. Can't say much more without some big spoilers, but it comes along pretty early in Act 3.

I've wondered if Mi-An was originally meant to be a benchmark for the player - in the beginning, she's really prolific and outpaces you, but as time goes on, you catch up and leave her behind; to show a sense of progression of the player's skills/reputation/etc..

Well, that's how it "could" have been if it had been something subtle. In my game, at a certain point she practically becomes a shut-in, overnight.

I'm at the very last story mission before the game ends, deep deep in Act 3 and I have no idea what you're talking about. Can you elaborate on what it is?

Yeah, she is a bit more active in Act 3. There is a reason for her absence and she becomes more relative. If you pay attention in group meetings later she will make side comments with text bubbles referencing her previous lack of activity, it can be pretty funny.

This has been bugging me too. Back in EA, it was even possible to lose 2nd place to her at the first month. Nowadays, she's like 4~5x less points than me and Yan by the end of the first year. The only way to lose to her now is by not doing anything the entire month, and sometimes not even that (currently I'm not doing comissions for a whole 3 months, and she's not even close).

I'm at a point she doesn't even visit the commerce build anymore as if she doesn't care for the builder's stuff anymore.

Pretty sure it's about how Yan was stealing her points and making her stand at a way worse position than she really should .

However, even after the fact nothing changes, so that doesn't help much. Also this thing makes a little bit mad in that we really haven't beaten her for real, all things considered.

This whole situation still burns my britches. I will never forgive the Mi-an Haters. They are dead to me.

Not only was Yan sidelining her and stealing her money/commissions but she has been spending a bunch of time at the Moisture Farm, so while we were doing all the Logan/Duvos stuff she was working on the water crisis. It ain't sexy, but there it is.

Yeah that "nothing changes" is what bugs me. If Yan was stealing from her then after he is gone she should start going considerably up in the rankings, but she doesn't at all. I can take commissions only once a week and I still will beat her with no effort.
I like Mi-an, she is always there, so I find hard to think that she is being obscured. Especially that she will occasionally wander inside my lot and house, talk about taking care of my baby, and calling me darling, despite that my wife is Amirah... >.>

Couldn't agree more, it's so weird how on the early stages she is always there with you, then suddenly she just fades away.

It would be nice if they just made some of the other builders have higher numbers, maybe even show up for the weekly inspections once in a while. Might well just be one of those things that was planned, but had to be pushed back during the crunch to get the game out after all the covid related delays. Would probably be relatively easy to fix, just change the multiplier used to figure their numbers at the beginning of Act 3.
