I'm really trying to love Sandrock and the effort put into it, but man is it a struggle.
Generally progressing main story quests is what triggers events, so if you have a golden quest (if I remember right) then just don't do it until your calendar is free. That should help you avoid vast majority of them
Most of us ended up here because our game was ruined and then we found out. Your approach basically results in the same situation occuring for everyone else. There is no real benefit to finding out after the fact. It's better to prevent it.
The Duvos invasion has knocked out the winter solstice in a couple of my runs, but that's actually a good thing because it doesn't slow the main quest down.
FWIW, my best time has been rolling credits on Fall 2 of the second year (142 days.)
