How romance quests are activated in general?

It seems that romance quests are activated based on the friendship level. I guess this means it is not related to boyfriend/girlfriend status.

I found many romance quests with Qi before having him as boyfriend status(i.e. dancing, being an assistant, etc.) . However, from boyfriend to soulmate status, I did not receive any more romance quests.

I found the same with Arvio but I did not build Arvio til Soulmate status.

Therefore, does this mean that romance quests are activated based on the increase in general relationship level only?
So, does this mean I won't miss any romance quests with all characters even if I don't give them heartknot (or being in relationship with them)?

Most character missions are based on friendship levels, and then some characters have missions specifically tied to being in a relationship/married to a particular character (I know Mi-an, Grace, Amirah, Fang, Ernest, and Unsuur for sure, and I imagine there are more on that list as well that I don't know), so it just really depends on who you're going out with and who you're not

And then, of course, there are confession and reverse confession missions

Some characters will have a full resolution to their personal arc possible just as friends and then have some bonus cute stuff for romance (I think Mi-an is like that), some of them their full arc resolution is gated behind marriage (Fang as an example)

So overall it really just depends on the character and what you're looking to get from them

Thank kinda makes sense, i have a question for you or anyone that has romanced a character other than nia. *potential soft spoiler* During one of her quests she falls and you kiss her, do these quests happen the same way if you show interest in them or not? or do you think it's not just if you're in a relationship with them it's also tied to if you've just shown general interest in them. like you wouldn't get that quest if you didn't show interest not that the quest would have a different outcome if you did or didn't. I hope i explained that well. I accidently showed interest in logan and i noticed an increase in quests for him that seemed slightly more persnal. idk if that was just my fault or if it was gonna happen anyway.

Yeah, that seems to be the case now, there are a lot of missions and branches within missions I've been hearing about but not triggering for myself since I married Fang. It looks like the more personal, romantic stuff is largely gated behind previously selected heart options
