Strategy for cat friendship

Anyone have an optimized strategy they use for befriending all the cats around town? I have been focused on 1 cat so far, and every day I try to bring a gem gift. I cant seem to find the elegant furniture they like yet, but i'll figure it out. Anyway I have been at this an entire year in game and Ive only gotten to 2 stars. Holy crap anyway to speed this up?

They love the pet furniture in Heidi's store and as that restocks daily it's best way I found to raise their affection fast. I just give them gifts from the shop every other day and that does it more or less. But you can also cook or get them other stuff, here some of the things in their tier 1 of gifts:
Machiatto - pet sofa, scratching post, fine steamed sandfish, fine tomato fish
Banjo - pet sofa, rustic armchair, rustic and elegant lounging chairs, rustic and elegant sofas, canvas, shiny scorpion

Any other info you need?

Also, as I forgot to add, problem with the elegant furniture is that you can only get it from furniture chest (lootbox) that you buy from mysterious man. So in the base game you get max 2 per month and no guarantee what you'll even get.

I checked the wiki for each cat, found the best gifts that I had access to, and alternated between good gifts daily till the cat liked me enough to be adopted (exception being Captain of course). Talk to them daily, give them gifts daily, and interact with them daily (even just observing an animal will give you some relationship points). (Don't give the same gift each day, it gives you half friendship points). It still took a couple of seasons to get their friendship up though.

Once you can adopt them, you can dispatch them daily and that will also give you friendship points with them.

Nemo - Shiny Scorp or Rib Jumbo
Coco - Shiny Scorp or Bird Swing
Banjo - Shiny Scorp or Sisal Thread
Captain - Large Sandacuda or Spinel
Macchiato - Diamond, Spinel or Sunstone
Meerkat - Shiny Scorp or Rhino Horn Cactus
Sandy - Rhino Horn Cactus, Eagle Flute or Wind chimes
X - Opal, Gold or Spinel
Take advantage of their birthdays for x3 points and festivals like Dance off, tour the rock for x2

Banjo was pretty easy. Got him on his birthday by giving a shiny scorp for 63 points.

I haven't seen Macchiato in my game for many days now, he is never in town or sitting in the usual spots, it seems like he disappeared about the same time Banjo showed up.

Anybody know some secret spot he might be hiding?

Nevermind, he just showed up again right after I did the mission for Bingo and the pet house, turned around and there he was, and the next day he was back walking around town.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned some of the easiest obtainable gifts for each cat. While some may not be the most points it's still very easy to get.

Banjo
Sisal Thread (green ants outside poison area)
Canvas (sold by Vivi)

Macchiato
Large Sandcuda, salted fish, mudfish, large mudfish
Foggy Bassia (random drop from some of the plants near poison area)
Vintage Pistol

Captain (Yes, you can't adopt but it's still 20 extra stamina as a friend)
