Cancel current research option?

Is this a thing? If it isn't, we need it! I just started a new project that will take seven days and not five minutes later I learn I need an upgraded tailor's table for a new quest. Now I have to either wait seven days to proceed with the new quest, or spend over 400 discs to speed up the current research. A simple button could solve this dilemma.

There is none. You should prioritize the earlier research anyway as you will not be able to build things on the end of the tree until the story progresses enough, but note 2 things:
- This is not a time-sensitive game. There is no bad consequence to just waiting a few in-game days to progress on the story and the few quests that have a time limit don't really punish you for not meeting the deadline
- If you mine with a certain frequency, you will get a good amount of discs and they are only mainly used for research (the few things you can buy are very cheap), so even though 400 discs might sound a lot, they are not and even if they are for you right now, there really is no reason to save them anyway.

I only know one way to cancel research. That's to load a save from before the research started. If you don't have a save that's old enough, or aren't willing to give up your progress, there's nothing to do about ongoing research except speed it up and/or wait it out.
