Really wish the storage system was a single chest you could just keep upgrading
Can't say I'm a big fan of having weirdly small chests scattered all over my property to store the F-ton of items we use/need. It should have just been a single chest that's continuously improving space-wise. Especially since the game auto-gathers items from storage for crafting.

Wouldn't be such an issue if there weren't a HUGE amount of items in the game. I'm not even that deep into it and I've got 6 mid-tier chests almost full hiding behind the assembly platform to reduce the unsightliness of them all.

It nearly is that, though, since by interacting with one chest you can access all of them with the option at the top of the screen.

The current storage systems is great as is. Want to store more stuff? Then yes occupy more space with storage chests or buy the large one from the mystery vendor when he is in town. Though would love to be able to get my hands on the schematics to make those myself as well.

Also what is great about the current system is that you can organize your stored stuff, like have one chest for clothing, one for scrap/fuel, one for ores etc. That way you can easily build your own filter system as when you access one chest you can access them all.

Only change I would like is that you could reserve a spot in a chest for certain items. How many times I have to put new copper bars in the chest again because I had used up all copper bars in a project so auto-sort all doesn't move them out of my inventory into storage.

i have a room full of chests in a far away part of the house i never visit, and then just 1 chest close to the machines for the dump, that way i dont have to see the place full of annoying chests :steamhappy:

I swear in Portia when you got the factory, you had one chest for all items to be pulled from the factory machines. Then I only had a few chests for clothes and special items. I heard the factory in Sandrock sucks. Does it not get a big inventory? I'm maybe 40 hours in and my chests are preventing me from getting a stable.

You really just need to access one chest. Then you can use the 'sort all' button to automatically place anything in your bag into any pre existing stack in any of your chests. Makes things much less annoying.

I just pile the rest of my boxes in an out of the way spot and label them by category for my own sorting purposes. But I never need to access them directly. I just use the one box I keep by my gate.

That's pretty much the point of this post.

Since you can access ALL chests by just clicking one, what's the purpose of requiring us to build 20 million boxes to hold all of our stuff? Why not just have one chest of varying styles so you can pick the one you like the look of, and simply have you upgrading that single box to add more slots like you do with your backpack? It would also reduce the annoyance of having to cycle through all the chests to find what you need, should you need to take something out of a chest.

In Portia I just lined them all up on the house balcony except one and forgot about them. But it isn't the same in Sandrock... I was thinking it would be cool if we could build like a storage shed that would be the ultimate endless chest. We could build it like the factory or greenhouse even, and we could designate it as a storage shed. Or we could buy a pre-fab shed like you do the coops and barn, then it acts as a large chest when you click on the door or something. Just some thoughts.

For this solution you need at least a level 4-5 Yard and about 10 Grand or so for the shed.

This allows you to move the building rather than the Individual Boxes. Beware of Stairs and doors if adding to an existing building . Always save your game before Home Editing.

Edit: Though that 10 Grand is dependant on the size and trimmings. You can always expand it later.

I keep one empty chest next to the worktable that I use to access all the other chests. Early game the others are sort of "hidden" behind the assembly station or the house. Late game I like to build a small storage shed to hide them in, like the previous comment. The storage shed caused minor issues in EA with a couple of NPCs Fang and Logan specifically , but nothing that I couldn't work around. That may have been fixed since release. I used a similar plan in Portia, hiding the majority of the storage behind the house first, then behind the L3 assembly, and finally behind the factory since the storage building wasn't an option.

Yeah but then you'd have to scroll 30 pages to find a single throwing rock lol. No thanks. No game does this, ever. And how would the devs know how many upgrades to give you? You might only use 10 upgrades but someone else might need 300. They'd have to program an infinite amount of space upgrades, which is impossible. But if they limit the space upgrades then another clown will come complain saying 'give us multiple chests because I already ran out of my 999999 slot upgrades!!'

This already works out really nicely because you can access all chests from one PLUS the machines draw from all of them. Trust me you can't even find this function in 90% of the games out there. Everyone just does the storage shed method, and it works out fantastically.

Thats pretty smart.
I'd like to point out what may be obvious to some, having limited size storage containers is also there to create an incentive to not horde anything and everything.

(Not that many of us let that stop us from doing so, but it is supposed to discourage it. :steammocking: )

But yet, the game strongly convinces you to hoard everything, because there's 50 million items in the game, and they are almost all useful in some way and you never know when that one commission is going to ask for something that requires some obscure item that is annoying to get on-the-spot.

I have a storage room at the top floor of my house (you can build 7 floors, FYI). Everything goes in there. I have a few chests around the yard for items I access often (gift box, for sale box, farming when you needed to have that stuff on you, etc). Long as you can access one box, you can access all of them. A storage room will solve any and all space problems. Just stick it all in the attic! :cat_cool:
