You're right, there are always complainers ^^ But I like your idea with “hard mode”! Or an NG+ in which the encyclopedia is preserved, a favor bonus or that you keep your cooking recipes.
But I wish Mi-An did at least a little better on points based on how overworked she seems to be storywise.
I do the inspections mostly for fun, since I don't really need any of the rewards anymore, but they're certainly worthwhile early in the game.
Yes I save scum, but only after 5 tries. Then I try 5 more. I would pay 500 for those 2. Sometimes I get all 3. It all evens out.
I practically continually hit the devs over the head non-stop with the suggestion that they add settings so that players could tailor their experience more. Of course everyone has different likes, that's why so many games allow players to tailor their own experience by adding in variable settings.
Truth, though I've noticed she's trying a little harder in year two. That or Slack and Wang Jr. have finally thrown in the towel. Why do we have them in anyway, same for the extra builders in Portia. They don't even live in town or have workshops do they?
