Fandom Wiki Issues

Okay so as the title says it's not just the Sandrock fandom wiki but the fandom wiki website itself is just dying. The overload of ads is bad enough but now it's losing data to the point that some pages are just missing all information. I have heard about people making alternative wiki pages but have yet to find one for Sandrock. Anybody know any alternatives to use?

There's no alternative wiki.

You can use the Guides on Steam, there's some very kind people making them here. The sandrock wiki was run by other ppl who stopped updating it.

FWIW, uBlock Origin seems to work on the ads on Fandom, but that host is a dumpster fire and either someone else will fork the MediaWiki software or you'll see something like Steam Guides start to take the place of Fandom wikis for information.

Kinda makes an old gamer veteran miss the golden age of GameFAQs.

I still occasionally dip into GameFAQs to see discussions on various games I'm playing. But I'm an old fart and change is bad! (Said while typing on Steam about a new game...)

A one-stop shop for every NPC's gift preferences would be perfect if you've got the time. With the full release version having restored Portia's buffs of 3x on birthdays and 2x on festival days, gifting has become more important.

Unfortunately doing a chart on Steam for the gifts would be a nightmare for 3 main reasons.

In the early days, prior to EA I spent a HUGE amount of time researching and updating the WIKI gifting tables for the KS players to use. It's not a simple case of what do the NPS's like or not. I was to find out later that one persons results would differ to another's.

I no longer update the WIKI gifting as dataminers/programmers stepped in to help automate it. Not being a programmer I was out of my depth so backed off. Continuing to do it manually on an ever growing list of options was unthinkable.

1. There are various algorithms behind the scenes that calculate depending on the circumstances.

2. Also, Steam guides have limited editing/formatting options which is very restrictive on what can be done.

3. There are now a lot more NPC's and gifting options than before.
It was a massive job then, now would be astronomical to do.

I really wish I could help you but on this occasion I have to say sorry no can do.

The gifiting tables make sense to datamine since the amount of items is so great and there's also a semi-random element added to the gifting values so one person's observations wouldn't be exactly the same as the next ones so people would believe they'd found errors. Unfortunately some people decided to datamine much more than just this and they did that work using a dev console that's now disabled. That's the main reasons why stuff isn't updated. I think someone mananged to clean up the code enough that the gifting tables returned. Some new editors are trying to cleanup the code so there'll be fewer memory errors.

Good luck to those people. I stopped editing when they went overboard with all that datamining.

As for getting rid of the ads, adblockers can clean it up almost completely.

Considering the current state of fandom and the wiki itself. Now would be the perfect time to start a new Sandrock wiki on a different less catastrophic site, maybe wiki.gg?

To be honest i have barely any experience with wikis, but if other people are interested in spinning up a new one, i would be more than willing to read up on them to help out as best as i can.

Fair, i suppose. We could fork the fandom one, but that might still be too much work, considering all the outdated information

Thanks for the response. If all else fails I can just go to the wiki pages that work and play it by ear with other gifts. Heck, I've got another character save that probably has a few loved gifts logged as well.

It was so much easier in Portia when those values were static!

Would it be possible to have a romance guide? Essentially stating quests you can 'flirt' with characters and which ones will confess to you as well as any other quests surrounding romance?
