Factory
Hey! Full release, yay, neat! I bought the factory controls because that made everything SO MUCH BETTER at the end of Portia, like everything was so dang fast.

And uh.

How do.

I made an empty room I guess? How do I like...indicate it's...relevant. I tried the outside controls too and it doesn't seem to register any of my machines or anything.

In Sandrock, we've made a small change: the key item called the 'Control Panel.' Once you place this item, it will convert the current room into a functioning factory. This means your bedroom can become a factory as long as you place it down! Each workshop can only have one control panel in effect. The idea is to fully support the customization that some Portia players asked for. So we made it in this direction.
And we're listening to your feedback about the factory experience. You can tell us here exactly what makes you feel unsatisfied. Here's what we've learned so far:
-Size not sufficient
-Difficulty in placing machines

You need an Inside Panel as well as the Outside Panel, and once you put the Inside Panel in place, you need to go into the Farm Editor and Designate the building as a Factory.

you also need a fire powered generator to run it. took me forever to figure that out.

It's not already one piece like Portia? Yikes

Nope! Empty room. No instructions either. I'm a little upset about it tbh.

It's sad that Portia has a better Factory than it's successor; I imagine that the varied Qualities and Modifiers in Sandrock prevented the copying of the earlier system.

I think the way buildings work in both games is the reason the factory isn't as it was. I mean we can build our own home now instead of just having the same with a few different outside flavors and sizes like in Portia.

I think the amount of extra buildings kill the whole "I am building in open scenery" feeling of my workshop. The stables and Barn already have closed off sides, another two closed blocks don't look great. Especially not since getting more space to build on is extremely expensive for the last few upgrades in my not so humble opinion.

I might be blind, but I can't seem to find items that were completed in the factory? I made some fireworks and they were completed but are not in my inventory and there is no option to pick them up with the control panel.

Was really looking forward to having the factory/greenhouse but if it's just a empty room with control panels might not use it at least with the factory in portia you had plates on the floor to place machines and the overhead crane plus a big storage chest.

The room also isn't big enough for very many machines at all...

Here is a quick guide to make the factory and get it working. First you need to finish the main story just past the Devos fighting and you will recieve a letter from Heidi talking about the Factory and Greenhouse and the items you need to buy.

Goto Junction Shop and buy Both control panels and Home kit.

At home, use the kit and goto the first tab and select Factory and build a room as big as it lets you. You can then add a roof and change the look and feel if you like. You can also just use a room in your house. The point is that the factory and greenhouse are limited to 1 room and no more. If you try to place another control panel down in another room, it removes everything from last room.

Place the outside control panel in the yard and head inside the room and place the other control panel. Now you need to use the Home kit while in the room to add any machines. You can get quite a load of machines in, just stack as close as you can. No need to make it look good as space is limited. I suggest upgrading machines first as they can't be touched inside except to pick up. The key is you MUST place machines using the Home kit, as just placing yourself doesn't work.

I hope someone will make a nice video soon for people.

I placed the machines directly in the factory myself and they work just fine. It might be because I designated it as a factory from the home editing screen (that way you don't even have to place the control panel inside, it does that for you).

Reading this just made me realize how not fun building sounds. I loved the ease of the Portia factory...
Personally I have always found the interface for creating rooms and buildings in Sandrock to be horrible. I haven't played Sandrock in a while (and don't plan to until the new bugs are fixed) but from what I am reading about the Factory and Greenhouse the developers doubled down on all the worst parts of the Home Editing mechanics. I was really looking forward to a Factory like Portia's but it sounds like the Sandrock Factory is a poorly thought out anemic wreck.

The player doesn't have to size, decorate and pay by the square for animal pens, stables or pet houses. Why do we have to for Factories and Greenhouses? Many of us are NOT interested in spending hours laying out and decorating buildings and I at least do not like the attempt to force me into doing so.

Same here. I would rather they would just used the same factory as Portia. I loved it.
