Rubber and Sand-fishing
I have two problems from the start. I didn't know the very rare rubber was something to be hoarded, as once I got 3 star commissions and started leveling machines, (Did it always take so many days for research in Portia? Now I have to go back to it.) rubber is all of a sudden nowhere near as plentiful as other scrap. Can the devs PLEASE add more?

Also, why the heck is sand-fishing so tough? I wasted so many worms on maybe 2 fish over the course of a month in game. (Mind you I tried about 5 times after the side quest.) And worms aren't that plentiful either. No matter when I time the trap toss, the fish gets scared away. Is this something that will be improved on in future updates? So far, I hate it. I love fishing in games (even Stardew's fishing is easier - unmodded) but I hate the sand-fishing. I miss the water in Portia. Tell me I'm not alone?

There IS more rubber scrap, but you have to reach a certain point in the main story for it to unlock. As for the fishing, are you waiting for the fish to be highlighted before casting? also if you have a refiner, you can refine the trap to have it cover a greater area f or each cast

Great, rubber is locked behind story. ok. I don't have a refiner as research takes a really long time compared to what I remember it taking in Portia. Also, I don't have the stamina (and the early game food sucks for replenishing it) to get enough disks to speed it up. I had to turn down the traveling man's side quest due to not actually having a cooker, let alone any recipes that early on. I'm glad Unsuur can wait for me to research and build the blender before I take his quest. (Sorry, I know, EA, but I feel like the pacing of the game is off. I had the dance off food drive early apparently and the dance off clashes with the end of the season festivals. So, I'm waiting for that to randomly pop up.)

Also, no, I never see when the fish are highlighted. Maybe I'm blind or it's not obvious enough. Also it was easier for me to buy the bigger trap recipe and wait till I can build that than bother with fishing or researching the refiner for another week. I barely just upgraded my workbench. Hopefully they fix the pacing issue a bit before full release. The only time I felt pressure like this in Portia was making sure I was prepared for the travel stops. It came on quick if you weren't prepared, and since I knew it was coming, it made things a ton easier. That and I wanted to do more than Higgins. :steamsalty:

I might just re-start a new game. I'm not that far in yet.

you could always get the better fishing traps.

as for rubber there are places near the train tracks not far from the house there is rubber.

also no need to follow story to quick i got one character up to level 40 as a test before i started the story.

gosh so many trophies on my night stand.

there should be a update dropping soon they did say late may early june either this week or need other wise we are more late june.

Basic research in Portia: 13 items, 2 to 7 days per item, 57 days total.
Basic research in Sandrock: 28 items, 1 to 6 days per item, 111 days total.

The average is 4.38 days per item for Portia and 3.96 days per item for Sandrock. Research in Sandrock is actually faster, there's just more of it. In addition, you can reduce the research time in Sandrock to one day per item if you have enough data disks. You could only speed up research in Portia by 50%.

Visit Rocky's yard and mine the three rubber tyres near the lift that Mi-an built. There's also a bit of similar rubber scrap near the area with the rocket roosters.

There is a third area in the desert with old tires for rubber near the spot where a lot of trees grow close to the oasis at the train tracks.

Rubber seems to respawn all 2 days.

Also a normal beginner sandtrap is rubbish to work with. Get the Upgrade machine researched and built as fast as you can - if you upgrade the simple trap twice to 'special' the catching radius and chance are both vastly improved. You can use that long before you get the materials for the better trap (which you should also upgrade to special as fast as you can).

There's two tires that spawn up near where the sandfishing area is, by the paradise lost.

I think you're just fishing wrong. It's actually pretty easy. You aim the trap and when the fish is highlighted that means it will be caught. You said you didn't notice the highlight. I didn't either at first. I was just throwing the trap over and over and I didn't catch anything. It was super frustrating. I thought it was just too hard. I watched a youtube video on fishing to see what I was missing. It showed the glow around the fish and I couldn't believe I hadn't noticed it before. It suddenly seemed so obvious. So throw in your bait, wait for the fish to come and nibble and while it is staying in the same spot aim your trap, look for the glow and throw. If you don't see the highlight then don't throw the trap. It means you won't catch anything and you're just wasting a throw (and stamina). The fish MUST be highlighted to be caught.

sand fishing is easy as hell, drop the worm and wait until the fish are actually eating it, then send the basket. Also you can buy worms over at the rank where the cows are, theres a lady that sells worms there.

Actually, it might not be so easy with a newly made BASIC trap. They really nerfed the Gather Range. Some of the fish (even NON Large) sometimes won't get caught even when highlighted.

Refining the Trap to increase its catch Radius as soon as possible becomes a priority.

I know a few playthroughs ago I had trouble when fishing right out the gate. So yeah, I get that some people are having issues.

Edit: Bear in mind that I have been fishing since EA Began.
