pet system
Working through a new playthrough, and trying out the pet system for the first time. Do I really need to just grind affinity points until 200? Is there any other way of gaining relationship points with the animals other than talking and gifting? it seems like a pretty brutal grind if I'm honest.

Any tips would be appreciated, maybe I'm missing something.

Those are indeed the options and you need to get to 200 points.

Check the wiki for what items the animals like the most and remember to switch gifts so you don't repeat giving the same gift too often, otherwise the effect will decrease.

The 80 dollar tier kickstarters and higher that have the fennec fox, that one is the exception. It starts with enough relationship points so it can be adopted immediately.

@Dex, try to hunt down the Meerkat LOL, he's hard to find unless you take note of the time of day and where he is at - i have him and Nemo as my pets ...

If you choose interact with them, you can pet them for one additional point a day. It's not much but something.

I believe you have to have a certain level with them to interact with them, though it isn't high. Also this will put you in a cut scene showing your player petting the animal. You will need to hit escape ( or if on controller, whichever button opens the save/exit menu) to get out of it.

I have a sort of plan:

Neemo - pet, alternating poop and jerky, I have lots of both

Meerket - pet, alternating shiny scorpion and bloodstone

Banjo - pet, alternating shiny scorpion/canvas and sandcarp

going to be a busy month

The wiki has what the pets like and how to get the most out of them ... Meerkat loves rhino horn cactus ... and Nemo like BBQ braised ribs (which you can make if you have the middle tier stove) ... also camping tent for nemo and the pet tree for meerkat as well ...

For the gift fatigue, is there a way to keep track of what you gave them the day before? Also, is alternating between two gifts enough?

There is no way to keep track unless you do it yourself manually ... and i alternated between 2 gifts ... it worked.

This option isn't appearing for me in the Interaction options fan. How are you accessing it?

Okay, so I have a pet, and holy, they're insanely OP. 18 - 24 dew, 2+ water, so upwards of 5 water every time they go out? That's crazy lol.

I have to shake my head at the devs being so reluctant to let the dew collectors be good for the longest time and then make magical pets that give 10 dew collectors worth of water daily.

I'm pretty sure that Interact unlocks at the same level as Adopt.
