What pets do NOT run off first thing in the morning?
So far I've realized that Nemo is a good boi who will stick around so I can interact and send him out to look for water, Coco is too new to my household to say but at least they move out pretty slowly.

Macchiato however is absolutely insufferable with how it books it away from the workshop the moment I step out of the house. Half the time I end up just not sending it out to do anything 'cause by the time it comes home again I'm busy with other things.

Is Banjo better in that regard? I don't mind adopting an extra pet as a backup as long as he doesn't take off at lightspeed first thing in the morning (and yes I know the meerkat is tame-able but looking at that thing freaks me out).

You can use the Home Assessment Board to assign tasks to your pets. Pet Management is the second tab on the board.

You can use a helper, if you have one, to assign tasks to the pets if your helper has the Pet Management function.

You can use the pet whistle, found only on the Action menu (TAB key on PC), to summon a pet, so you don't have to go searching for it.

Meerkat doesn't run off in the morning. I don't know about Banjo. Coco usually sleeps at her assigned pet bed during the day unless you wake her up.

... I completely forgot about the whistle.
Gonna check out the home assessment board too, so thanks for telling me about that, I didn't know it had that kind of function.

Funny enough, Coco is awake all day for me, though they usually settle down in a cactus near the ranch, so tracking them down hasn't been too much of a problem.

Tbh in my previous save Banjo was running away ALL the time, he was never around. But this time i adopted Nemo, Macchiato and Banjo and for most of the time they re just in the yard, minding their own business. Cats cleaning themselves, dog is digging. Sometimes they run away to the center of city but it's quite rare

I have nothing against real life meerkats, but the in-game one looks nothing like them. Honestly I don't like it at all and avoid interacting with it because of that. Same reason I don't buy any rabbits in Sandrock.

Meerkat and Nemo stay in the yard for you ... Banjo runs off into town ...

Meerkat is adorable, he always sticks around and keeps staring at you. I'm thinking on adopting Nemo even tho I'm not a dog person just because Macchiato drives me crazy with his running. He always comes back around 10-11am but sometimes I forget to talk to him later

Well, the Eufala Meerkat are the descendants of genetically engineered survivors of an extreme ELE (Extinction Level Event) so you are lucky they look as much like original meerkats as they do.

I'm the opposite as I keep running around first thing in the morning. Feels bad seeing Nemo just stick around if I didn't tell him to go explore or dig. I'm planning to adopt all pets just so Nemo will have friends around the workshop.
