Report a translation problem
The problem is, different players will have different expectations for their character voices, whether is the tone, style etc. We found it hard to do a voiceover that satisfy all sides, therefore decide to not implement it in My Time at Sandrock.
It's still possible that we might be open to discuss it for future My Time series projects.
Not only that but there is.. what 4 voice options for each gender, so 8 total, doing all the lines, especially in all the languages including ones they haven't finished that everyone wants to have now, with 8 different voice actors just for that language, will be expensive unless its someone willing to do it within the company or voice translations and not a hired voice actor.
Those who are waiting on translations would have to wait even longer and some are getting impatient, which I cant exactly blame them, but I know translations can take a long time.
I've played with the voices for the other characters but now I'm over it. They've really started to irritate me so now they are all silenced. I prefer to have my own interpretation for everyone. I could make a list of the good, bad and dreadfull but in the end it's personal choice.
I would prefer the devs spend time and money on the translations than the voice acting. That would make the game playable for more people. The more people that play the better for everyone, us and devs.
Also ...
I like the sound of that !!!
Me too! I am ecstatic
Since you already decided, i can't say much for this game. But i will explain something for future references.
I see 3 groups for this topic:
Group A: The players who don't want any voice
Group B: The players who think any voice per gender is fine
Group C: The players who make specific voice request and want more options
I agree that you can't satisfy Group C easily. So you decided to do what Group A wanted. I don't understand why Group A see this as a problem, although they can get what they want by clicking "No voice" at the start. I am in Group B. We think any voice tone is better than being silence. You could satisfy us with 1 voice per gender like NPC voices.
Even if this disappoints Group B and Group C, some of us won't stop playing thanks to other good sides: Design, Engineering, Creativity, LifeSim...
Thank you all for great efforts!
But more games!? HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am assuming no (unless a future patch allows it), as the cut-scenes appear as pre-rendered/recorded with voices embedded. But as someone who prefers to "hear" my own voices to the characters, it's a little jarring to suddenly have voices play during the cut-scenes when I have the voices muted throughout the rest of the game.
Oh, I have to add I don't think this is a problem with every cut-scene (it has been awhile since I last played), but one cut-scene I can remember, as an example, is when the character Pen (the super-hero looking guy) introduces himself to the player character. Even with all voice playback muted in the options, Pen's voice will still play as he appears to the player character that leads into the combat tutorial of the game.
That said, another inherent beauty of the DLC model is they could charge a nominal fee for it. IMO, kickstarter backers and people who bought the game during EA should get it free, unless Steam makes it too difficult to separate out those users. After that, maybe it's $2 or something. Whatever their market research suggests will at least sell enough copies that it'll pay for the VA. If it makes them a little extra, even better.
Clap-trap didn't matter because they added in a bunch of filters so you probably cant hear the distortion.
The option to turn it off should also be present, but for those that want it, it'd be nice to have
