So how do you actually expand your house?
every time ive tried to mess around with making my house bigger it seems to end with a block not connected to the house (and in one case high in the air) am i doing it wrong or is this just early access blues? also if theres a prefab option the game has to just make it bigger how can i access that?

Not sure why it didn't work for you but you simply place a building block right next to the already existing house and where they share a wall the game automatically connecst them with a door. Tried it only once and it worked without problems.

Also you can select editing on your original house block (or the roof) and change the size or position of them. Though that usually sends a lot of your furniture to your mailbox.
No pre-fab option, it has been asked for. And you are not alone having trouble with expanding your house, it is a really bad interface for building and expanding buildings on your lot. That has been been discussed and complained about as well.

Think of each square placed as a Room. You can expand the Squares to a finite side, but you can place as many squares as you have room for.

Builder Lots can be expanded in size (up to Level 10 I think).

With Creativity you can build some really cool stuff. But it takes Money and effort. I do hope they get some prefabs down for people that don't like it. I hope they expand on the current system in the next came. Would like some more rounded pieces for architecture.

More importantly in the next game I would like to see a seperation of living space and workspace. I hate having them combined.

You can use the houses in the Showroom (last tab in the Build mode) as prefabs. Place one on an empty spot in your yard and then delete the existing house if you want.

But while on topic - can anyone explain how to change the color of the wallpaper and maybe the floor inside the rooms? Do I need to use that room kit Heidi sells? If yes how? Like the gardening kit?
Or is that thing just for when I want to share my room setup with the community?
Lol I like my house but I kinda messed up with constructing the upper floor - the staircase is directly behind the entrance door ^^' I'll take care of it next time I buy an expansion and have more spoace to restructure.

Yes, you need the Home editing kit. Activate it INSIDE to change the interior or Outside to do what you do at construction Junction. Using it once will add it to your Tab Wheel (like the gardening kit.

To share your houses you need the Catalogue that Hedi also sells. Caveat: I never got it to work and gave up, haven't tried in about a year. So maybe someone else can give tips about it.

Edit: Stairs are definately a problem, you can move them or delete them, or place new ones. They will reset if you move the Room they are in and will just be a general pain. You just learn to live with it. They are the main reason I build storage sheds (Exterior one story small building) to keep my storage chests in so Stair cases won't keep sending my chests to the mail box. You can place mini or extra boxes inside house and outside to access your main horde.
