You can also open up inventory slots at I think 10 per slot for maybe the first page (Arrow key on Inventory page, price will go up the more you open).
I believe there are a few Treasure chests around town that have some gols (Check up near the Church on the west side rear). Plenty of other chests around town. But they have other things in them. So just wander around and sell what you don't need.
I usually do the rope (elsie) or the twine (Gran Vivi).
I really don't want to spoil the game too much for you. Talk to as many people as you can and they will usually give you stuff the first time. Sell what you don't need (Some things may not be sellable at certain vendors, usually the General Store (arvio) will buy most things.
Honestly once you have enough boxes the challenge suddenly becomes finding space for them and remembering which box you put X in. (You can rename them thankfully, but can you remember which of you 100 boxes has the sisel in? Cause I never can...)
It would be really nice if the starting mail or introduction characters handed you a starting storage crate instead of a uhh... let me check what junk I've gotten... a vase, a poof chair, 2 shirts, a wooden chair, and a floor lamp.
Early on, do a lot of foraging. That gives you an opportunity to make some money if you can catch everything that comes out of that. Don't sell the food. You're going to need it. You can craft some items on the workstation and sell them. But the best way to make money is to pick up commissions from the guild.
P.S. The game has an extensive tutorial. It looks like you might need to visit it. It can help.
Wear one of the shirts. They both give you extra Stamina and Defense.
Put the poof chair somewhere in your house or yard. It gives you extra Health.
Put the floor lamp somewhere in your house or yard. It gives you extra Stamina.
Put the wooden chair somewhere in your house or yard. It gives you extra Health.
Put the vase, you guessed it, somewhere in your house or yard. It gives you extra Defense.
I use the one called CLOTH (keeping all the pieces for making like that together.) Speaking of boxes, I wish stuff could be sorted in columns, instead of doing the rows thing. Actually, it's no big deal because I manual do the 1st placement, then just click. Because it does rows, I know right away if I did something wrong.
You know what? Forget I said anything. I think I just out-unhelpful-thought my own system. hehe xD
anyhows .. usually on the first day i take one commission - and make the things i can do like stone troughs etc ... I buy one storage from Arvio and sort stuff there, and expand my inventory space by one each time if money allows.

The people here are mostly kind and help you too. I am sorry you
were overhelmed by your inventory,
I hope this helps you.
Kindness is a choice.
If you use them for their purpose instead of keeping all of them in your inventory all the time, you will have more inventory space for the things you need to complete orders and make money.
The game has a tutorial, and the community has made guides. There's a huge wiki. Building or buying your first (and subsequent) storage chest(s) really isn't that difficult. It's also just part of the game... so I'm not sure what to tell you. Of course the game is going to give you a lot of items- it's a building/crafting game: inventory management is a huge part of the entire genre.
Even if this is your first game in this genre, like I and others have said, the game has a tutorial built in, and there are plenty of places to look guides, tips, etc...but a little common sense would go a long way. Put the furniture in/around your house, use/sell/re-gift consumables, do jobs/quests for money to buy bigger inventory/storage spaces...
It's like asking what you're supposed to do with all this ammo in an FPS- use it to shoot things. So I guess my advice is just play the game? I'm genuinely not trying to be rude, I'm just a little confused by the amount of aggravation/difficulty being expressed. Is this kind of game not a genre you have a lot of experience with, maybe?
Well, if you have the material for them. Yan sells the Medium Recipie (same as Arvio Sells). I belive they require a Copper Bar, so If you have a ton of those in the first couple days, knock yourself out.
Mer personally I just buy one a day the first week. That usually gets me until the 20th where I get as many large as I can afford .
Arvio's sales are supposed to last for a week, and I would buy 14 chests if they did, but apparently he can only count to six.
