But two of those bachelorettes either aren't in the game yet (Jane, the teacher) or have barely made an appearance (Nia, who makes one three-day visit after the water tower quest.) Another, Venti, you'd be forgiven for forgetting existed since only the ability to give her gifts and build relationship separates her from generic Eufaula Salvage crew.
Only Logan is not yet romanceable among the men who will be romanceable in the final game (there's one line of kinda hilariously creepy dialogue in the "final boss quest" of the current build that one presumes will be expanded upon.)
As for non-romanceable named NPCs, there are six adult women and nine adult men. Ten if you count Mason, twelve if you also include Mint and the Mysterious Man. So it's between a 3:2 and 2:1 ratio.
There are also children (Andy, Pebbles, and Jasmine), and again you see the gender disparity of 2:1.
I don't know why this is—maybe the devs have some reason—but yeah, counting absolutely everyone we've so far met even if just in passing, that's 26 male characters against just 14 female.
Now, granted, even if that mystery NPC is a woman, that puts it at 12:10... A little lopsided, but not by much. Frankly, I don't really care that much given the characters we have, by and large, are pretty well written. The dialog is deep and evolves as the story progresses, unlike Portia where NPCs would say the same 2-3 lines the first day of the game and the last. Quality over quantity.
This is the reason. There are several romance options that weren't originally planned to be romance options that are included in the game due to the Kickstarter campaign goals.
Still, it's not the quantity of any games characters that makes a difference - it's the quality. That applies significantly more to romance options. Are there more males, sure. Would I date all of those males? No.
Can you list a female in town that's currently not available that you'd like to be a romance option? I'm not making fun here. I'm actually curious, because there are two male characters that I wish were romance options over some of the current options available. Who would you want to be an option, and why?
Although I am kind of miffed that there's only one brunette bachelorette; Jane. Who isn't even in and isn't very aesthetically appealing in design to me. So I guess I will pick Nia? I mean blondes are okay I guess.
I thought the game had three - Amirah, Jane, and Venti. Two with raven hair - Catori and Mi'an, and two blondes - Nia and Grace. ....I could be wrong though.
Given the number of male characters it's good that Nia got included as well for the females. The list is still skewed but it might not feel as obvious when Nia and Jane become permanent additions and Venti becomes a more fleshed-out character. Honestly, she probably got included simply because it was a female NPC.
Venti isn't a permanent resident right? I thought she was going to leave. Amirah has black hair since she's from arab heritage I think. At least that is houw it appears to my eye.
It definitely could be my monitor or my vision. Amirah appeared to have chestnut or a mahogany in certain lighting. Granted, what a color chart lists as 'darkest brown' can definitely appear black so it can be difficult to discern who has brown hair or who has black hair. I typically go for what sort of highlights they appear to have. ( To make matters worse, depending on the source black hair falls into the brunette category and doesn't have a separate one. )
JVC is correct regarding Venti. She was among the crew that elected to stay with Rocky.
Arvio - Ernest - Fang - Justice - Owen - Qi - Unsuur.
These were the original planned male candidates, should the goal have not been reached.
Amirah - Catori - Elsie - Grace - Heidi - Jane - Mi-an.
And these were the original planned female candidates.
Every other NPC only became an option after that goal have been reached. From there it was a simple case of the game having more single male NPCs than females.
Also, Nia and Venti got added to balance things up a bit.
These were not the original candidates, in a recent Q&A, it was said there were 10 original candidates, 5 men and 5 women.
Men: Arvio, Qi, Owen, Fang, Logan
Women: Mi-an, Elsie, Amirah, Heidi, Grace
The rest were kickstarter or wishlist goals, esp. Ernest, Jane, and the CC boys.
P.S. yes Logan was always planned from the start lol
