My experience has been Multiple Rooms (2 or more, or stacked) cannot be moved at once and doing it one by one just....causes too much disruption with interiors (stairs getting set back to the default and furniture getting moved to the mailbox.
What I ended up doing to save myself alot of headaches is create a storage shed (this is where i put all my main storage chests. One floor and roof and no mess or fuss when moving. For My main building I just bite the bullet and rebuild in the new location and put all the furniture back down after I go through and add/remove stairs and reposition interior doorways.
Saving to the showroom is also difficult to do (for me) as multiple selecting didn't seem to work at the time and I just gave up as my designs are weird and likely not be a major draw. Just easier to redo as I need.
Thanks for the reply, now I know I didn't miss it.
I think the rooms are too small. After you have built a staircase, so much space is used by the staircase that it is really narrow.
Maybe make the stairs narrower or allow building a hallway in which to place the stairs.
I tried to build a hallway, a narrow space where the stairs should go for all floors. Unfortunately, the game requires a staircase for each module.
I hope this will be improved. Still a cool innovation to be able to build your own house.
I think what would work for you in the short term is to create your rooms. Then add a smaller room on the side (as you said a hallway) an ascending Stair Well (You may have to experiment) connecting to the rooms with interior doorways. Then remove the stairs in the main rooms Kind of an E formation.
Edit: And to any devs.....LADDERS. That would be so awsome, we got animations for the in the new areas. Give us those please.
Edit2: I guess the ability to remove flooring would be too much to ask. I still remember my Abandoned Wherehouse setup in Sims 3 with Fondness.
EDIT:
found it i must click on the ground. I allways wondered why the ground glows green after i have a 2nd stage.

Would be more clear if only a part of the floor glows green so i know: Ok, thats the Stair.
Thx, i dont think i found that out if you dont write that stairs can removed.
To the Developers. Can you please add a nicer small Stair then only the Iron one? It looks ugly i would like a Stair that is similar small but made from wood, or looks modern i dont know. All the other Stairs are very nice my favorite is the edge stair but needs to much space.
10x11 is minimum so you have a small walkway around the edged stairs. I tested it.
11 long --> 10 Deep ^. Set the Edged Stair in the Edge of the room and let the small space in front of the door.
