DEADLY valley of whispers

whenever i walk down to the valley of whispers (from cannyon if hienas) my health bar drops immediately and i die (if i do not walk away from that area asap) i even tried to enter that region with my bio hazard suit on, but nothing works - i did notice a fog in the valley below - is it gas from the purple mushroom enemies???
