Be warned, the game is designed to softlock you.
So this has now happened to me on two separate saves, and the developers didn't give any help and just told me that I'm wrong when I reported the problem before.

I found out that a number of the "Main Missions" have timers that will fail the quest and that unless you get specific upgrades or stockpile the required items before starting the quest then your game just gets softlocked. If you fail one of these missions, then your game will not be able to progress to the next step in the story and you will be unable to progress.

I've tried just about everything I can think of, but I have now lost two saves and 6+ hours of play to a mission that I had no possible way to complete.

For reference, the biggest quest that I'm having issues with is "Cover my Glass" where the train needs the windows repaired and the timer is one day. I'm not able to get the upgraded furnace before then, so smelting the glass takes longer than a full day, and I end up failing it from the timer and now can't progress. This has happened on two saves now, and I will have to start the entire game for a third time.

I reported the problem and the developers told me that "It is a side quest" and that "Mi-an will carry it for you" If that is the case then the mission is labeled incorrectly.
I am now over a full week of in-game time and that's not happened, however. I'm not getting ANY side missions pop up and the only thing I can really do anymore is expand my yard and complete commissions. Because of the response (or lack thereof) from the developers, I can only assume this is working as intended, and is intended to force you to full restart your game if you don't have quests done before you accept them.

Heya, looking at the post in question where Yang answered you, it looks like Mi-an's supposed to continue the quest for you if you didn't complete it before the timer ran out. This mechanic is there to prevent softlocking, though you'll probably just need to keep advancing through more days to give Mi-an time to finish the mission. There was a similar mechanic in Portia to help move the story along.

The train glass quest isn't a primary mission. It's just side gig.

Then why does it say it's a main mission ingame and prevent me from progressing?

It is not a side mission, it is a gold tagged mission, meaning it is not a side mission. I hadn't really been paying attention, but I thought it had been a few days since had happened to me, and I hadn't received the letter to go meet Zeke yet.

Doesn't soft-lock the game, just in case anyone reads this and it would put them off. Game continues as normal after a bit even if you miss something.

I just completed that mission, luckily I had the materials to make the glass.. At the moment I only have the standard furnace, I made the glass fixed the window and turned it in the quest..

It's a good thing you can buy the sand in a pinch too

Because the quest has less than a day timer, (You fail it the next time you sleep because the train leaves) the hard half a day timer required to make the glass in the furnace, and the fact that you get the quest around noon, you have something like two minutes between getting the quest to starting the furnaces and after they finish smelting to run and turn it in before you pass out. The first time it just failed because I didn't notice the timer, and the second time I ended up passing out running to the turn in point because the furnace took too long.

*Edit just booted up the game to check and did the math, starting from the time you wake up, if you only have one furnace then you have 2.5 minutes to do anything else in the day before or after you make the glass in order to not fail the quest.

I always make surplus supplies of everything... I had 3 furnaces going - just had to grab the glass, maybe more furnaces?

So it is a missable quest, not anything that will "soft lock".

OP, you need to change the title of your post to "Be warned, there is a missable quest".

The soft lock happens when you miss the quest. My game is basically bricked and I can't continue because it was failed. There is no way to restart or retry it. Being able to fail the quest isn't a problem, having your save bricked because of failing a main storyline quest with no way around that is a major problem.

This isn't a roguelike, it's a farming sim. Imagine if you couldn't get any further in Stardew Valley because you didn't immediately plant the right plant on the first day of the season. There's no reason for this to be designed this way.

Edit: Because the quest fails the morning of the day, it autosaves immediately as you fail the mission, so you can't go back unless you're using multiple backups of your save.

How long has it been since no progression since failing the mission?

The first time I waited about a week of in-game before I wiped my save and restarted. Now I've gotten about a month of in-game time just sleeping nonstop to see how far this goes. I have no main missions, no side missions, and none available anywhere.

OP this is the last quest in the demo version of the game and there are no more quests after that. You have, in the demo, two days to finish it. Because you can't make the glass to finish the quest, the timer the ends the demo doesn't trigger. In the main game it is a side quest and I think you have like 6 days to finish it. You are still playing the demo version.

Here's the wiki for it: https://mytimeatsandrock.fandom.com/wiki/Mission:_Cover_My_Glass

I'm fairly certain, but not 100% but after that quest there is another trigger other than time that starts the next quest. I think i had to go into the ruins and have an event trigger.

This game isn't finished yet, it's still in early access.
