Operation Flowergate?
I can't see where to plant the seeds I was given. They're not an option to plant them in the ground, and I don't see any places around town to plant the seeds, what am i missing?

Select the number 2 on your keyboard, then e, then use the middle mouse button to scroll through the seeds.

Eta. also make sure you made enough straw squares. One of the seeds needs 4 straw squares.

When the seed are in a chest , they wont show up. They have to be in your inventory.

I am having trouble planting for Operation Flower gate or any other seed but Sandrice. I had 30 seeds I wanted to plant and it told me I had 0. I have been trying to get this done since I got the quest.

1. Make sure the Seeds you want to plant are in your inventory.
2. Make sure you have a straw grid to support them. Normal Plants require 1 Straw Grid. Big Plants require 2x2 Straw (4 grid Sqare). Tree's Require a 3x3 (9 Grid Square).
3. Select the Seed. This seems to give people the most trouble. Remember to be in Farm Mode and Press 2 to select Seeds then press E (Default) to bring up the seed select, Middle Mouse Wheele Scroll to get to other seed selections. Select a seed type to become active and then press left to plant (in your highlighted Section it should show green, if it shows red you have an issue, either no straw or not enough grids)

Hopefully this helps clear things up. If it doesn't let us know.

I'm 73 hours into this game (which I love) but I DETEST the hassle of planting stuff! It shouldn't be so difficult imo. Sigh.

Vccpres I totally agree with you. I'm not messing with Operation
Flowergate any more. I have had 4 characters try to do it and none of them can.

Are you able to post a screenshot of what you see? You should have a couple pages of seeds when scrolling.

people digest information differently, so now I'll add my explanation too in case it makes it easier for someone.

it did take me a little effort to understand how the gardening menu system works, but now that I have used it a bit, I quite like it and it is easy to follow. pls excuse my possibly over-detailed explanation, but I find sometimes it can be the tiniest detail that derails understanding so I do my best to be complete. once it's understood, it's easy to remember.

How I understand the gardening menu:
1. Mouse click is for actions - opens gardening mode, creates straw bed, plants seeds whatever - carries out whatever command is on the currently highlighted hotkey
2. Numbers are to select hotkeys. Some hotkeys are actually menus that can be activated by hitting the 'E' key while they are highlighted (there is a highlight hint on the side saying something like "E to expand blah") and these menus can be scrolled through using the mouse button - eg selecting seeds(coffee, pomato, etc) and the type of bed(biocrust or straw).

How I understand the gardening process:
Go into gardening mode.
Create the bed (straw initially - mousing over seed will tell gridsize, single grid, 2*2, 3*3
Select the seed.
Plant the seed.
Water the seed.(will water all grids if seed occupies multiple grids)
Fertilize the seed.(will fertilize all grids if seed occupies mulitple grids)
Harvest when the plants get sparkly shinies over them.

Flowergate specific: when all plants have been harvested and are in your inventory, lots of arrows and question mark quest icons will appear all over the map pointing to planter pots. I think from memory the quest said five locations but it seemed to be more. There are some in the main street, some near the temple and I don't remember where else. Click on the question marks above these pots and the plants will be planted for the quest.

Putting the process together with the menu:

All gardening items need to be in inventory, not boxes - seeds, water, fertilizer, toolkit

Go into gardening mode: drag the toolkit to a hotbar key, highlight that key by hitting the corresponding number, click the mouse button to go into gardening mode.

Create straw beds: Hit 1 to select hotkey 1, press mouse once to create a single straw bed, move and hit the mouse again to create a second straw bed and keep moving and hitting the mouse for each straw grid required. As some seeds in flowergate use a two by two grid, I recommend at first making a grid of at least 3 by 4 so whatever seed is picked first can be planted. Can't remember if flowergate uses any 3 by 3 grids but it definitely uses some 2 by 2 and single grids. I think I used a 3 by 8 grid overall for this quest but I don't remember.

Select the seed: Hit 2 to select hotkey 2, the seed hotkey. Hit "E" to open the seed menu and scroll through the menu to select the desired seed. Only around 5 seeds are shown at a time, but scrolling to the end will cause the next group of seeds to load. While scrolling, note that different seeds have different icons on them to indicate whether the seed uses a single grid, a 2*2 grid or a 3*3 grid. To select a seed, simply stop scrolling so that that seed is highlighted.

Plant the seed: Look at the seed icon to see what size grid the seed needs: hold the mouse cursor over a suitable location and press the left mouse button to plant. (centre of any grid for a single grid, point where 4 grids intersect for a 2 by 2 grid, centre grid of a 3*3 grid). Sometimes seeds aren't visible after planting, but I think that is mostly just coffee seeds.

Water the seed: hit 3 to select water hotkey. Hold mouse over seed, press left mouse button. This will water all grids used by the seed. A blue line will appear when mouse is over grid showing how much water there is. This water can last for multiple plantings and it seems it cannot be replenished until it runs out. When it runs out, a large blue water droplet appears over the top of the plant

Fertilise the grid: hit 4 to select the fertilise hotkey. Hold mouse over seed, press left mouse button to fertilize. This will fertilize all grids used by the seed. Animation will be similar to watering but brown spots come out instead of blue. A brown line will appear when mouse is over grid showing how much fertilizer there is. I've yet to observe fertilizer running out so I don't know if an alerting icon appears over the top of the plant as it does for water.

Harvest the plants: When the plants are ready to be harvested, shiny sparkles will appear. Plants can only be harvested in gardening mode (or planting mode or whatever it is called when the planting toolkit is activated). From memory, I think it is "F" to harvest, but there is a message on the screen that says which key it is to harvest.

Hey aphfid, thanks for your very detailed reply! Speaking personally, your reply is exactly why I won't continue with the planting--I would need to snap a photo of your reply (or the one from the devs) and then refer to it over and over as I grind my way through the steps of that quest. I know I could do it, following all those steps, but gosh, I don't WANT to have to do all that! I will probably just ignore the quest, at least for now...maybe I will try again when I have more energy to give! But again, thank you for taking your time to outline the steps--very kind of you! :-)

@vccpres, thanks for your reply and yeah, and I totally get the not "wanting" to bit.

I'll just add, if you do happen to give it another go sometime, I think the Sandrock planting and harvesting system is actually a lot quicker and easier than Portia - it's overcoming that first hurdle of getting comfortable with the menu system.

vccpres everything you have explained I have already tried many times. I did the commission for Zeke. I have enough seeds to plant, enough grids & water. Nothing works.

Sorry, this is going to be long-winded because I don't know how to make it short and catch all the relevant detail. I'm a compulsive over-thinker.

it might be a bug that needs reporting.

your earlier post says that it shows you have zero seeds. if the seeds are in your characters inventory and not in a box, then this would be a bug, and it would probably be helpful to the devs if you report it.

I got caught out only being able to plant sandrice as well. I don't know what the keys are on a controller, but using keyboard and mouse, "2" is to plant seed, but it's also a menu that allows the player to select what seed they want to plant. So "2" has two purposes which is confusing.

If "2" is active(highligthed) on the menu, "E" opens a menu to select the seed and left mouse button plants the selected seed. By default, sandrice is selected initially. To select a different seed, press "E" and scroll through the options. Initially 5 are shown, but scrolling through past the last option will bring up the next 5. Left mouse to select the desired seed, then left mouse again to plant it.

I hope this is helpful, but I don't know if it's a bug or whether you are using mouse and keyboard.

I think flowergate would be better broken up into a series of mini-quests with the purpose of showing people how to get through the menu system. I know there is a tutorial to explain it, but the reliance on tutorials is usually inversely proportional to fun. Quests should be broken into steps and require players to use the actual planting menu so players can get used to menu one step at a time.

I found the Sandrock system much more convenient than the Portia system once I got used to it, but there is quite a bit about the Sandrock planting system that isn't intuitive and would be better taken one bite at a time.
