Report a translation problem
Try gravel rocks. They are round, reddish-colored and a bit stripey. Able to be mined with the starter pickaxe. They have stone in them as well as other resources you are sure to need. You aren't looking for scrap rock. You're looking for stone.
I EDITED my original response. it was defintiely some sort of glitch that was basically giving me an infinite timer but never giving me any bricks, which is why i was so perplexed
Edit: but yes, problably it's a bug. Sometimes there isn't any sand around the machine but it still gets the sandy signal, and that slow the production time drastically. Better do as you did, replacing the machine seems to null the sandy.
