Personal preference feedback - Do the eye bags bother anyone else?
I feel that this was an unnecessary feature to add and I would personally rather be penalized for staying up late with having reduced stamina or something else. In Portia I am used to going to bed around 1 or 2 and it's just odd to me that I would have to adjust to looking like a raccoon my entire play through because I prefer to stay up later.

I don't mind if there is a penalty as many games of this genre have something, but it's just my personal opinion that the blatantly large dark circles are not a great feature... at the very least the eye bags could look a tad more realistic and not as exaggerated.

Just wanted to voice that opinion and see what others thought about it. :)

Nice to hear that. In our plan, we want to be more simulation setting in Sandrock. as you know, Sandrock has a harder and more challenging surroundings, builders needs to wisely arrange your stamina, and have a schedule. That's why we have a late sleeping penalty.
However, we're very open to this, if most of you don't like it, we'll try to find a better way. So, let us know your ideas, eyebags, stay up late penalty.....etc, anything related to the sleeping or stamina, looking forward to your opinions.

I prefer the eyebags. I run out of stamina too fast as is, the last thing I need is even less. Eyebags are just graphics with no bearing on the gameplay and you mostly look at the back of your character anyway when moving around.

I also prefer the eyebags.

I didn't even know that eye bags existed because I only ever really look at the back of my character XD.

I mean it's not something that's a game breaker or anything for me.. I just really enjoyed how my character looked in this game already compared to Portia and I woke up the second day with these huge circles and was so disappointed.
I guess part of it as well is that I feel a bit silly in a game like this making relationships and using the date mechanic in which you can end up seeing your characters face more and wondering if the marriage candidate thinks I have a problem... XD

I definitely wouldn't want it to have a real penalty on it since you can use the 3 am reset to get unstuck.

And.... sometimes we just want to play to have fun and feel good. I'd like a "Portia style - just be happy" option to turn off stuff like penalties and eye-bags. For me, Portia is great because it is just "feel good", and that's the niche that has we want to buy the next chapter. Otherwise, it just becomes like the zillion other games out there (for me).
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I like the eyebags if you stay up late. For me it adds to the game.

I don't like the eye bags. I don't want to look at that on my character. I don't really like the passing out mechanic either but am used to it in games so accept it. When I'm out running around late, I'll sometimes see NPCs, so kinda sucks I as a player have to pass out when they get to stay up. There could easily be other penalties like no stamina regen if you don't sleep/sleep to late, maybe makes your stamina drain faster the next day as well.

I know some use pass out as an emergency way to get home when stuck rather than loose the whole day's progress, though that doesn't seem to be intended game design. A choice might be an option though, you can pass out now and wake up at home with however much stamina, or choose to stay up and accept the penalties of lost stamina and faster draining stamina. IRL most people don't pass out from pulling a single all nighter but certainly do have less energy from it. Which gives me another idea. Just pass out on the second night in a row at whatever hour being up.

But if nothing else, no eye bags. That's more a penalty on the player, having to look at it, than a penalty on the character, like stamina drain is.

Yeah I agree! It adds a bit more realism to the game.

I'd rather the eye bags be optional. I get some people really, really want a lot of realism in this type of game, but there are many of us who use this as an escape. My life and my job are stressful enough--I have bags and stress and all the visible signs of overworked/underpaid working-poor every single day of my life. I don't want it in the games I use to relax and de-stress. It would be different if Sandrock were to be some hyper-realistic, real world type game, but neither Portia, nor Sandrock as you are billing it, are meant to be that type of game. And it's just ugly. The eye bags need to be optional.

Also, after playing a bit longer, the eye bags make the characters look like drug addicts, especially at some angles and in certain lighting. It's a really bad look. I don't really want my character looking more and more like a meth-head every day. Take a look at this feature one more time, devs. If you're adamant that it stays in for some reason, it absolutely needs to be optional. Make it a toggle and be done with it.

I like panda eyes, quite realistic to be honest) Maybe add some recipe for some cucumber eye mask (as an example)? Which needs to be crafted, of course. That is, which cannot be obtained straight away, but over time it will be possible to save yourself from bruises under the eyes
And let's say you need to sleep normally at least once a week, otherwise the mask will stop helping you

An optional setting sounds like a good idea, just like people can turn hats on/off.

"Visible effects of tiredness: Yes/no"

If you turned it off, the character could still be yawning, lacking stamina and complaining a bit, it just wouldn't be visible on the model.

I was a bit shocked when I saw the blackeyes the first time. I couldn't figure out why you developers would do such a thing after putting in so many customizations so we could make our character pretty/cool looking. Seems to me the sleeping thing is a sabotage because you know very well most players are not going to get to sleep before midnight.

Agreed with what you said. I like the eyebags, make me feels more relatable to the character.
