My Time at Sandrock

My Time at Sandrock

Statistiche:
UGH Motion Sick!
I tried to post this on the Discord server but since I don't own a cell phone, guess it's here! First and most importantly the camera shake needs to have an on/off toggle...could stop the motion sick a bit. I didn't experience motion sickness at all in My Time At Portia.

Secondly I tried to pick stuff up, had a blue arrow, and nothing happened. I smashed the E key about 20 times, found a different pile, rinse, wash, repeat, nothing. So I got in a fight with some bees, and that's where I discovered the camera shake...which led me to log off almost immediately. I know all the tricks about motion sickness on games...I'm a long time gamer...I know it's a Demo, so a bit of polishing and that camera shake toggle and I think I'd be fine. As of now, it's unplayable for me. Which is sad, as I truly did love Portia, it was a birthday present from my hubby.

Wow. I am normally super sensitive to games for motion sickness - I can't play ANYTHING that's in first person only, but I don't have the least bit of issues with Sandrock. I'm sorry, that sucks.

It could be frame rate issues. A choppy frame rate can induce motion sickness. If OP has graphical settings to high for their device this could happen.
I too get motion sickness but with Sandrock i got used to it ... (I also play Genshin Impact which used to give me alot of motion sickness but i have since gotten used to it) ... my motion sickness in some games is so bad i have to go lie down to get the nausea to go away .. I do feel your pain!! ...
I get motion sick unpredictably. I have no issues with Sandrock, or with Portia on PC, but Portia on Switch made me sick. I paid a lot to be in the SunnySide alpha, and couldn't play more than a couple minutes before having to lay down.

I'm also super confused why OP couldn't post in discord without a cell phone?
The only game I ever got motion sick in was Middle Earth: Shadow of War. Seriously upset at returning that game. Couldn't even go through a quest in the start area with a Window Screen.

Usually playing in Window mode stops motion sickness. Games like that, the graphics are so good and when you fast look with with mouse "whipping" around it seems motion sickness can start. Not even in freaking combat or running and it can start.

(This is not a knock at great graphics and any attempt(s) to construe said meaning from this post will be vigorously denied.)

My sympathies to those who easily get it and hope the changes helped. :)

Yeah, it totally sucks. I won't even buy a first person only game because I know, 100% those games will make me motion sick in minutes. HAS to be third person, but even those can get me. I have Ark, for example, but any time I want to play it, it's a matter of easing back into it as it CAN make me very sick, but I can adjust to it and then be fine to play. Even so, I end up never playing it because of that needed process (thankfully I only paid $10 for it, and I've gotten $10 worth of play out of it, for sure).

I really wonder what causes it and if it is something developers could fix....?

Oh the games I have wanted to play but could not. I will forever be bitter I could never play the Star Trek: Voyager game back in the day. :stella_sad:
It varies. I can't play We Happy Few at all (and steam wouldn't let me return it because it was just outside the window). Some games, like this and Portal, are OK but I need to be careful. The weird one is the Stanley Parable, where I only get motion sick in the white walled museum/labyrinth and nowhere else, but I get it really badly there.
If I may ask - this is a lot of interesting discussion of what causes the motion sickness, which I appreciate - but I've been playing on Switch (like others, had no problem with Portia, but have had real issues with Sandrock) and was wondering: does anyone have advice for specific settings adjustments that they've found makes the game more playable! Any (Switch- sadly, window mode not an option!) tips would be gratefully received.

I wish games had a magical 'motion sickness reduction' setting for those that need it that you could turn on and it would alter settings accordingly! As lovely as the graphics are, if I can't play it, I can't appreciate them in all their glory...

Good gods, that would rock. At the very least, I wish developers would take it into consideration. I get they can't for all games under all circumstances, but sometimes the stuff that can cause it can be so silly it could have been avoided. Or, at least, I wish Steam would accept returns after a longer time period played. The worst offender games will make me sick as a dog pretty quickly, but some games I can put in a considerable amount of time in before they suddenly make me ill and then I can't play them anymore.

I wish more was understood about the science of it. Makes no sense to be fine for 40 hours and THEN unable to play a game. What!?

I am so sorry for the people experiencing it with Sandrock. The games doesn't bother me in the least, and I can't even handle Paleo Pines anymore! 🤷‍♀️

I've also been left feeling queasy after playing. I have a neurological condition that has left me with vestibular nerve damage so some games now trigger motion sickness and it takes hours to settle down afterwards. I'd like to add my vote to an option to turn the camera shake off - there must be another way you can add a visual clue (or even an audio one) to show that you've broken the creature's defences?
There's already a visual cue because the monster's toughness bar is shown along with its health bar during combat, and when the toughness circles are all grey, it's broken. There's also generally a sharp sound played that gives a little more oomph to the normal hit sound when the hit breaks a defense.

Camera shake and motion sickness don't usually bother me unless I'm sufficiently fatigued (or suffering the very beginnings of a migraine) that I should really get to bed instead of playing games or unless I'm in caffeine withdrawal, in which case slamming a Monster, turning off the screen, and going for a walk until it kicks in fixes the issue (this happens surprisingly often on the weekend—curse my get-up-at-0600 day job for addicting me during the week!)
