So, just witnessed radio exchange and apparently, there is a squad on its way to kill Biff. SHould I rush to the other side of the map? What will happen if I'll ignore this event/quest (I am a bit deep into freeing Cacao so that's that :D )

I did same thing - looks like devs didn't anticipate taking that mine by boat and triggers Biff stuff when you enter any B# sector. For me it's several full squads of enemies between my main team and Biff. I could try use my secondary team (3 mercs) and intercept attacker in that one port sector on the middle of "river"... But I ended up going back 3h as it looked grim.

I've had Biff trigger without ever being near the A2 mine. Might be timed.

Just got up to this Biff mission myself and fought my way up to the A sector to save him.. is he intentionally programmed to like.. *not* get out of the mortar fire or something?

The enemy waves aren't an issue from what I've fought off so far but this d*ckhead has such incompetent AI that I've spent a lot of saveslots and a lot of reloading wasting time so far trying to keep him alive? What gives? Almost wish there was a mod someone made that makes him invulnerable or something unless it is scripted that he is meant to die here? Getting a bit out of hand that he just sits in the radius, or that the bombs seem to *always* fall on him.

Ugh. Cool new mechanic they introduced there but why did they have to do it with some braindead AI that doesn't run from it?!?! /rant

If the AI doesn't see you, they can't target you with the mortar, so they will always target Biff, especially if the other merc guys hide in the building.

Oooh thanks.

Annoying they give us the countdown between waves to let us set up in stealth/ambush-sniper locations - only to then just punish us like this :steamsad: Guess I'll try to engage them head-on next time I boot it up.. :steamfacepalm:

After replaying this part a few times, I've noticed it occurs around the beginning of June. You get the message and at this point, you have limited time to help Biff - a squad is heading their way. If you go to A8 and wait for the squad to arrive, you will trigger a fight with 4 waves of enemies. After the fight, you will be forced to talk to Biff, otherwise, you can't leave the sector. Then Santiago will contact you, and tell you to meet her in the Refugee Camp.

If you kill the squad in mid-road, nothing happens as long as you don't go to A8.

There might be another squad heading towards the Refugee Camp. You have the option to intercept it as well.

If you kill both squads and don't go rescue Biff, around mid-September (the 20th in my case), Santiago will contact you to tell you the president was found, and they don't need you, and the Major interrupts etc,. Long story short, she wants to meet with you in the Refugee camp.

Now, here is the thing - if you don't go to the Refugee Camp, there will be no Military Takeover whatsoever. It's November 26th at the moment and I have conquered the whole 1st and the 2nd island, and I even went to K16 and talked to the Col. Faucheux xD

So to conclude - whatever you do, if you don't go to the Refugee Camp, there is no event. Unless it's triggered by a date somehow later in the game, or the game loops you to the camp before you can progress.

I think you can prolong saving Biff as much as you want, but my suggestion - do it as early as possible. Get some ammo, and do it. It will give your mercs a lot of XP and some EQ.

TIP #1
If you help the Rebel Leader retire, there will be no rebels coming for the Jewel, and that's bad if you struggle with the enemy. You can convince Biff to give them the Jewel, and if you succeed, they will help you fight another wave.

TIP #2
The mortars seem to be unable to hit the Ad Sign. It's an absolutely fantastic spot for a sniper and MG Merc. It's good to have 2 MG though :P

TIP #3
They always come in the same patterns and directions. If you struggle, learn the pattern by Save and Load, I do it often to experiment :D

TIP #4
Having Barry on the Team will help you a TON! Seriously, he creates directed explosives out of thin air that deals A LOT of DMG. What's best about it? The enemy tends to group and you can easily kill 4 or 5 with just one, well-thrown grenade, and watch them pop xD

And at this point, I must say, I'm impressed by the amount of choices and outcomes you have in this game. Absolutely fantastic how one event or side quest can influence the whole game.

ive ULTIMATE solution for this quest :D Never find it anywhare so i need to post it.
How to get DIAMOND+INTEL!!!

***My CheGuevera is retired (ive done this quest earlier) + I have drunk (not cured) Larry in my team.

1.When Biff is calling for help - go help him=kill aproaching squad + kill waves of enemies in battle.
2. When u will save him DONT talk to him. I think in this moment nothing triggers the timeline. Biff is safe, Refugee camps is safe, u can do lots of stuff (I THINK i am not 100% sure so dont assume its a fact just do what ive done described below).
3. Go to Sanatorium where Larry can be cured = Start quest Red Rabies (Outbreak).

You can let her continue with the experiments. She will continue to kill countless innocents in the name of science, but at least you'll have no time limit this way and will have to live with the thought that you basically condoned mass murder. For science, of course.

6. Talk to Biff - he will give u the intel (for saving his life) + He will give u green diamond (thanks to Cured Larry).

I started this game twice. And in none of the games Biff is calling for me ?! No radio, nothing. Now i send a squad to Hill Station. But no Biff. I even did this, before the Lady is telling me that he has been killed..... why doesnt he contact me via radio ?

So as a new JA player i just got this. I went south right after tutorial island and this triggered after several weeks of me struggling with healing, repair etc.

I have no idea who BIFF is and what refugee camp or his location is so guess this is timed.

I only just cleared cacao area and some of my guys just hit level 3. Hired more people i a lot here with 4 people then hired 5th. Now up to 6 but there is no way im going that far north when i havent been anywhere except the 4-5 slots at cacao.

Some people here are saying locations that are in the absolute TOP north was that where you were supposed to go right from the get go? I guess i ♥♥♥♥♥♥ my game or something, i just read Rich in the mine south and went for it.

It's optional.

If you go north into the savannah at the start, you get more of the "M.E.R.C. company was here before you" -info and related stuff, leading to Biff.

If you go south early, you get more of the "Emma and president" story stuff.

Biff alive or dead, doesn't really matter. In fact, if he's alive it makes some things a little bit harder (green diamond subplot).

When you save Biff he leaves the island anyway. You cannot hire him or anything.

The only positive about saving Biff is him giving testemony for something you need in the endgame. But it is not necessary, because you can get enough from other sources if you manage that. It's one possible source.
You can also get it from the major with the correct influence and I think leadership.

So these steps have been patched it seems and as soon as you leave the map, youll trigger the next step (refugee camp) and biff takes the diamond home.

To avoid this, have a second squad arrive to the tile and enter tac view and then you can move your main squad out of the place and do your thing without triggering the rest of the steps.

So far the rest of the guide seems to work, you just need this small workaround to make it work.

the easiest way is to just kill the squad that is sent by Major. You can send your mercs to D11 or C9 I think. Good sectors to intercept that specific squad. After you kill that legion squad you can take all the time in the world before you decide to go to A8 to Rescue Biff.
