explosives specialist
necessary? like holy hell, these damn landmines are everywhere on the continent. im defusing them with my tankiest guy, but it becomes increasingly frustrating

It is much more fun when you have explosives/mech specialists and all 3 dialog traits.

Yeah... Only thing I didn't get at the start of my campaign was an explosives guy as my barry wasnt available at the start and its hurting lol. 50 Just doesn't cut it with all these pro mine layers ;)

what do i need to spot and defuse them? high explosives skill and what else?

Nothing. Defusing is a free action.

You just need the explosive skill to spot and disarm mines (and other explosive traps, as stated in tooltip).
Barry wasn't available for me too, so I went ahead and cleared all but the fortress and hired Red. Herman will wait happily on the mine for days.:steamhappy:

I hired Barry with a bit of hesitation in the beginning, but he's wonderful. Not only can he easily disarm explosives and mines, he also has high leadership and wisdom in understanding people's problems due to his religious faith. He can spot many things and explosive dangers in a sector!

He also uses personal grenades making more damages, and craft 2 of them each 5 days or close.

I agree he is a great start pick and if not available for your play start, consider hire him a bit later when you are still in island.

Very useful skill - especially for crafting ammo / special ammo and explosives / grenades. Landmines seem to pop up often enough as well that having an explosives expert will save you some aggravation.

I tried disarming with 19 Explosives, the mine exploded, but both German and my merc survived. Then German thanked me for saving his life and his quest continued normally. Return and save German ;)

Explosives specialist isn't necessary, but Barry himself is. :)

Barry wasn't available in my game so I hired the mech woman, she has a nice bonus of showing all enemies on the map with intel, game changer.
