proximity c4 not going off
Hi,
wondering if this is a bug or me misunderstanding a mechanic:
I have combined C4 with a proximity detonator. Description reads "explodes when an enemy enters a small area around it. Threw it in the path of multiple patrolling guards, who entered the radius shown when throwing it.

The C4 turned red and started beeping, but never exploded even 3 turns down the line, with enemies still in the radius, nor 5 turns down, without any enemies around it anymore. Still red and beeping along, no detonation

Am I missing something or is this not working as intended.

I think the radius shown when throwing it is the detonation radius. It explodes if someone enters the red area around it, similar to mines.

Proximity explosives seem extremely inconsistent and it feels like they only trigger if someone enters the tiny red trigger radius "correctly".

It also feels weird how they don't explode by enemies being directly on top of the trigger radius while performing their actions or from running out of it.

I actually had a Proximity mine blow up. After the battle when Barry walked next it to. Almost killed him. The only time they have 'worked'.

I've thrown them right next to an enemies feet, nothing. Then the enemies just walk around them of course.

You can't shoot them to make them explode. But an enemy shot one to hurt my guys. I think that was just a missed shot that hit the mine.

They need to be adjusted in the next patch they can't be working correctly.

The only way you could use them is to throw one out and then chuck a grenade onto it for a double boom maybe.

They do go off, but the proximity range is very small, too small.

^^ this. It seems almost like they reversed proximity ranges; in game they are much higher for your mercs than they are for enemies, regardless of who put the charges. my proximity charges work great... on my own mercs. not so much on the enemies. I find the triggered charges (that use the button) are much more effective against enemies.

The only way they're viable is to throw them behind a piece of cover the enemy is going to run into.

I tried placing them at the entrance to a door, figuring the door would trigger it on being opened. turns out the AI refuses to open doors with traps on them, which was useful, but not expected.

So, I just checked this thread to see why my c4 weren't working... then on my next move they triggered two of my explosions and almost took down the building, that my team is sniping from.. 😬

2 x Proximity TNT at SHTF army spawn area. Only one went off, assume the 2nd one got disarmed by enemy Ai. 50% success rate.

The only way I found them useful is throwing them near an enemy and then shoot at it.

Most of the time, an explosive goes off if it's triggered by a friendly. I've had my own mercs blow up from friendly mines and I've seen a few enemies hoist by their own petard (the benefits of a classical education!). Only once in my playtime have I seen one of my mines work correctly. I have seen turns where the enemy's foot is displayed standing directly on top of the mine itself at the end of the turn and it never went off.

And yes! to claymores, definitely.
