You need to find an NPC in the corthiard and interact with it.
This will move the plot further.

But beware: this side-quest is bugged anyway. You cannot proceed after (spoilers!) an ambush. Maybe I got softlocked because initially I escaped back in the basement and basically started the encounter twice.
My advice to possibly avoid getting softlocked — try not to retreat and exit the map.
I will try and check this, if I actually manage to survive.

Where is the entrance ? I see something that looks like an entrance for a basement on the left side of the house, but I can't interact with it or blow it open

You need to go there at night.

For me I had to discover some 'clues' and then I could get into the basement but it was empty and the notes said to come back at night.

i did it about 5 hours ago with multiple retreats because the guy who made that encounter must smoke the heaviest ♥♥♥♥ existing, parking you infront of 4 people with no chance to get cover and shotgun-melee guys who can run like 25 tiles and still attack 2 times. i went up, killed 3 guys, went down, went up, killed 2 or 3 guys, went down, went up, could stealth and killed another 8(guess was a 14 man encounter). no clue how this encounter is possbile without cheesing.

Made it out alive without resets, but some quicksaves/loads. Helped to have Barry in team with his special grenades. So I took out the first three guys in a blast and sniped the machine gunner. But It's by far the hardest mission I encountered, and I guess you're pretty f**cked with less than 5/6 people.

Hardest difficulty and no reloads...came close to wiping out, only was possible due to Barry spamming his strong directional grenades and taking out 3 guys on the first turn, even so everyone was wounded to hell, this ambush definitely needs a nerf, attackers just kept coming too

This ambush is just an insane ramp up in difficulty. as soon as i came out the bunker 3 of my mercs are shot with zero warning taking around 14 damage each. am loving the game overall and not found much to complain about, but this fight was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Yeah same issue here. Quest is broken as I had to immediately retreat back to the cellar to re kit and heal my squad. I DID spend an hour clearing the mansion before hand. Possible you can avoid the mansion first and get the thugs to aggro the legion to make it easier? Mansion first and then thugs? NO BUENO!

Update: I left the mansion and went back to Fleatown. After a day or so there I went back to the mansion and was immediately engaged by 4 thugs. Took them out and could complete the quest

I ran into the same problem with this ambush being way too difficult, and retreating to the basement gives you no way to talk to Ghost at the end to complete the sidequest. But I think I found a way to make it manageable without savespamming.

When you first talk to Ghost in the basement, before going back out to face the ambush, go to the satellite map and have your squad start moving to another tile. The game will immediately tell you they encountered enemies and prompt you to start a battle. Now if you do the battle, you'll be able to deploy in the mansion. The cutscene with the ambush will start and somehow all the enemies will still know where you are and come rushing at you, though. There's still a lot of enemies, but it's much easier to defend the mansion than to start out in the open by the cellar door.

That quest ended my ironman run as all my mercs were still at lower than half health from the mansion fight and 2 people were tired and I had no meds and nothing and did not expect a fight with 12+ enemies after talking to the ghost. Surprisingly I managed to take out like 8+ enemies despite me starting the fight so beaten up already, but the last couple of enemies was just not possible, low morale, one of my guys died, my medic downed, enemies in secure cover positions. I'll certainly prepare better when I come across this quest next time as I know what to expect now.

This quest is broken and some of the game mechanics are broken as well. Shot a guy standing maybe 3 meters away, a short burst to the head and he didn't die, ridiculous. I must have reloaded 50 times to survive this encounter and all of my guys were severely wounded. Apart from that, the game's good, only needs some tweaking.

So there is an easier way to setup that battle without exiting and run to retreat.. just attempt to move to a different sector from the Sat View while you are in the cellar, which will also trigger the ambush, but instead of deploy at entrance of the cellar, you can deploy in the mansion which is much better.
