This will move the plot further.
But beware: this side-quest is bugged anyway. You cannot proceed after (spoilers!) an ambush. Maybe I got softlocked because initially I escaped back in the basement and basically started the encounter twice.
My advice to possibly avoid getting softlocked — try not to retreat and exit the map.
I will try and check this, if I actually manage to survive.
i did it about 5 hours ago with multiple retreats because the guy who made that encounter must smoke the heaviest ♥♥♥♥ existing, parking you infront of 4 people with no chance to get cover and shotgun-melee guys who can run like 25 tiles and still attack 2 times. i went up, killed 3 guys, went down, went up, killed 2 or 3 guys, went down, went up, could stealth and killed another 8(guess was a 14 man encounter). no clue how this encounter is possbile without cheesing.
Update: I left the mansion and went back to Fleatown. After a day or so there I went back to the mansion and was immediately engaged by 4 thugs. Took them out and could complete the quest
When you first talk to Ghost in the basement, before going back out to face the ambush, go to the satellite map and have your squad start moving to another tile. The game will immediately tell you they encountered enemies and prompt you to start a battle. Now if you do the battle, you'll be able to deploy in the mansion. The cutscene with the ambush will start and somehow all the enemies will still know where you are and come rushing at you, though. There's still a lot of enemies, but it's much easier to defend the mansion than to start out in the open by the cellar door.
