if you are new to the genre then play easy mode.
Normal is totally overtuned with 3-4 times more foes than your squad, choked down reward drops and munition, money earning is so bad you cannot even sustain your beginner squad (or barely with one mine) and the enemy gear adjusts to your squad each time even in stupid ways (you get one assault rifle - hurray - ALL enemies now have assault rifles even if only one of your squad has barely got the rifle).
Balance is just totally out of whack on what they call "normal".
Just cleared the island and dropped in the first port:
14 enemies - and in addition a overtuned Bounty Hunter Squad of 6.
With having a squad of FIVE.
All armored while barely my main character has west, helm and armored jeans.
And all better weapons.
Mind you it is on the "Normal" setting.
Plus I am almost broke already and out of ammo as you are choked down with drops and ammo.
And nope - not using forgiving option.
So even the lowest difficulty is just balance broken in my opinion.
I am playing Commando and it´s tough as hell. Even without deactivating the other "help". But i guess my 3rd restart will be easy mode^^
Difficulty: Mission Impossible (hardest difficulty)
Verdict: GAME IS TOO FREAKING EASY!!! coming from a guy who considers darksouls normal mode already hard.
f you are anything like me, you will immediately want to replay the game on completion so having a higher difficulty to try will make that second play through more interesting. (Novelty will sustain the first playthrough.)
If the push back from that is completely trivial to you, then yes, best to restart on Commando or M.I.
Do not complain about the difficulty if you save scum. Every game is trivialized if you can simply roll the dice until you get natural 20s on every roll, so to speak. Go first blood, single save, lethal weapons [whatever one means when they hit 0 they die].
It's just sick - I tuned down the enemy squad size to 1.25 and turned forgiving mode on to soften the maintenance penalties ._.
