How does morale actually work?
I don't understand how this system works. It seems very inconsistent. What are guaranteed ways to gain morale levels and lose morale levels?

that guy would never vote SNP and sit in jail for thoughtcrime & jokes.
no wonder barry likes him.

@grayef:
was mouse´s moral already low before she panicked due to that comment? would be weird if a drop from normal moral to low (-1) could lead to a panic

Yeah it was low cause Fox was on the team. So it went to very low.

Yeah Red is ok. I like his jokes and thoughts about women holding guns but he's no macho really.

Barry is like his softer version. He even compliments women " you fight like my sister, but less Hungarian."

only had red in JA2.
currently i dont see a reason to get him tbh.
- barry is cheaper and serves as wisdom (squad 2 bc lemonwire squad 1) & explosives (squad 2 bc larry is explo squad 1)
- red doesnt join with buns on the team, who is an acceptable 90+ wisdom for squad 3 and decent enough to train milita with hitman (leadership squad 3 (not great but no alternative here (till some raidertraining)))
- nails with his 78 explosives is good enough for everything (some mines tho) (explo 3), while coming with 90 str (strength guy squad 3), better MM, same wis, twice the mechanic (making a decent secondary mechanic), psycho and no pessimist. sure no mr. fixit but never seen it required (also i dont like not seeing %s on that), not with nails´s stats. also the untouchable leatherjacket is no problem when everybody is a sniper and with decent MM he´s quite late in line for a bipod, which is another plus

so yeah, except for the jokes i dont see a optimized squad that uses red, sadly.

but going from -1 to -2 can cause panik is good to know.

Red is a good a shot and got 99 explosives so I'm happy with that

Guide linked

It's the same as JA2, so if you play JA2 you kinda know what's gonna come up in JA3.

It's not devastating, it's just like -1 AP and if your guy's decent fast it's not a deal breaker.

... Mouse panicked at that comment was running away. I found that way too funny but I think loss of morale works like that sometimes
LMAO

Killing a lot will increase morale, there are perks too, MD is a good candidate to take the team morale perks

I'm not entirely sure but I don't think the game really cares if mercs that like or dislike each other are in the same squad or even anywhere near each other.

Sure having them hang out together will get those interactions that sometimes raises or lowers morale, but some of the baseline stuff seems to still be in effect regardless of where they are on the map.

Vicki for example doesn't like when stuff is a sausage fest, she was quite happy in my initial squad which had three ladies, but this eventually turned to a negative, i think because I got some of the free mercs sitting around in other sectors training militia. So the gender ratio tipped into dislike for her.

I also used Larry for the training, after initial recruitment he was in his own squad alone always. But it seems the mercs that dislike him will be annoyed that he even exists, regardless of proximity.

I'm pretty sure the system overall is pretty buggy and inconsistent. The lack of actual data and feedback from the game itself makes it nearly impossible to tell what's going on, and because of that, even harder to bug report.

I think that lucky kills have more chance to trigger a morale increase. I have it rather often, ok no comment please. :-)

Pretty buggy not, but with bugs, yes I have this feeling too. There's a mod showing details of morale sources, try use it.

fort bleu is definitely not tutorial on higher difficulties.. in fact, efficiently clearing the forst with three or maybe four mercs on MI is one of the hardest fights because you have terrible gear and stats; imo the game has a bit of an inverse difficulty curve XD
[SCZ]Celestrian Aug 12, 2023 @ 3:05pm
going from the amount of mercs that died that day, i´d say it was the easiest difficulty. however since this whole operation was a disaster, all 3 day hires might be possible.
i´m too lazy to check. i only remember the blue hair now and docQ (who has nothing to do on ernie island) screaming while everyone else gets butchered.
