What to do with the fort at H4 if I hope to not kill Pierre and Bastion?

I'm not sure what is the deal with Pierre and Bastion. My group attacked the fort from behind and decimated everyone there. So they just end up dead -- the family guy end up with a flying knife in the neck and the motivated youngth was brutalized in the crossfire between two machine guns.

I read online that I suppose to meet them in some other places first for some dialogues. Do I not suppose to attack the fort? Just leave the fort be there and hope they wouldn't recapture ernie village? I'm playing a really cautious/casual slow game, it is day 1107 and I barely captured fleatown.

It seems I suppose to meet Bastion in the rust, but I do not remember encounter him at all. Maybe I thought he was just another goon or band, either way...if he is at fort, then I have to chop chop, is that right?

So I loaded into an earlier save, I didn't knew I could enter each sector without a mark. Does it worth the time to explore each tile? The squad is always busy raiding diamond trades.

Bastien is only at the Rust, when you have talked to him at Flag Hill (the startin level). After that he is in the Rust. When you talk to him there, there is an option that he flees. So he is not at the Fort. As for Pierre. after taking the Fort you have the option to let him life. Spoiler: Later on you can recruit Pierre, easiest way is if Bastien is still alive.

Yeah I completely missed him in the Flag Hill. Good news is that after I load into the save, he was there.

Yes, it is very much worth it to explore every tile you enter. 9/10 unmarked tiles offer something, some even offer quests or rare-ish items.
Also, dont bother with the shipments, you quickly will have more money than you could ever spend anyway (unless you play very differently than me).
