Games do die, even JA games have died. Go check the pulse of JA: Online if you don't believe me, or go check the average player count on games like JA: Rage and JA: Flashback.
Modern gamer mentality is to cry about "dead game" every time there's two weeks without patches or DLCs.
It's a successful game.
No, what's wrong with YOU? DLCs, or previously referred to as "Add-On", were staple for every possible somewhat successful game. Hell, JA3 would be the first JA game to not receive anything.
How is it complete? Tons of merc still missing, tons of possible content to add on the map, weapons, ammo types, etc, possible map expansion is also an option, etc. Add-ons and DLC don't mean that a game has been left unfinished. Their existence means, that the devs expand on it.
Or do you seriously think there is nothing that you can add to JA3 at this point? Not having much of a fantasy and imagination, huh?
How can any game studio enter into a new contractual arrangements with a game publisher that does not exist yet? Any lawyers here? You guys are the only people making content with Embracer Group.
So only one solution = mods. My question is where are the modders and fans who want to build or support new campaign mods? Sir Ni is leading the charge and buiding superb mods, but on speaking with him directly about building a large campaign mod (e.g. JA2 port into JA3 - recreating Arulco), he said he cant do this alone. It needs a team of modders to build a DLC size project. I started a thread of starting a kickstarter to fund JA2 port, but got no comments back..
I feel people are being a bit to pessimistic assuming there won't be any DLC, and for the same reason I think people are being too impatient expecting a DLC to be announced/released any time soon.
It wasn't that long ago they were done with patching and modding tools, any DLC content will take more than a couple of months to plan out before they can even begin developing it. I doubt we'll hear anything till at least the end of the year, but it'll likely be 2025 before any announcements get made.
Just enjoy the game for what it is right now, and keep an eye out for good quality mods.
Also nothing's to say that there aren't bigger projects around to add multiple campaigns by multiple modders, just that it may take em months/years to finish.
Yes, that is the issue, let alone creating a map even when you copy+paste a lot from existing maps, it easily takes one day (8hrs) to finish one that is up to the games standards. Not counting in all the quest writing, technical stuff and testing. So for a full on Campaign, it can take months and even a year. Also ppl working on mods usually have a "real life" and other things to do as well.
As to rebuilding JA2 in JA3, I agree you would need a team of dedicated modders.
